I have had my SDS100 for awhile now and I have not had any issues with the knob and/or scrolling. Honestly I do not really play with the scanner that much as it is programed and scanning for what I wish to listen to. But when I want to playback and or manually hold on a channel everything seems to be fine for me. I hope these issues do not start occurring with mine over time. fingers crossed.
Also my 436 I have had way longer and the knob on this one works fine so far too and I play with this model alot more, so it has alot of wear on the knobs and no issues thankfully.

I've a feeling there's a few of us SDS100 owners out there experiencing this problem.
Will let us know if yours gets worse, I'm very hesitant to even touch mine now but I do need to use the control for volume and channel selection. Let's report what we find if things get worse!

It does seem to be a small Club here but I'm sure there are more. I'm glad I have avoided having to send this thing in for repair on any of the other issues people have experienced.

Thanks again for making the effort of getting the spray... Bob.

Wait times aren't always that long. It depends on how busy the shop is.

Its not like they can mail you a replacement encoder and expect you to follow the simple 29-step process I outlined above, plus soldering, to replace it.

I believe the 3-week estimate would be accurate based on shipping times back and forth.

I have experienced this issue with my 436 and SDS100. It'd be nice if this component didn't wear out, but honestly, the use that my knob sees, it doesn't surprise me. I record while I'm at work and then replay later to harvest RIDs. Doing this, it didn't take me long to notice that the knob was wearing out.

The solution? While in replay mode, dedicate the left and right soft keys for "backing up" and "advancing" recorded audio. Use the middle key for "Pause", and if I want to exit, I'll use the function button on the left side.

But... part of me thinks that Uniden is very well aware of this and is happy to collect the $85 (or whatever it is now) for repair once the warranty runs out. And in my case, I would probably need to send it off for repair at least once a year. Any scanner that sees high knob utilization becomes the gift that keeps on giving for Uniden.

I've had my sds100 for a few months. if it is already worn out what does that say about uniden build quality?...my experience with uniden is that they will never admit there is a problem unless they declare it an official problem... Spent many hours and days arguing on the phone with them... They always tell me I'm the only one with the problem!!! When literally hundreds of people on here are having the same issue...

I count about a dozen, maybe less. Where are you getting "hundreds" from?

I'll tell you exactly where I'm getting hundreds from.. I was referring to the many times I called uniden on many issues that involved defective parts on the 536 the 436 and the SDS 100... Every one of these times they said there is no known problem... Even though checking radio reference as well as other blogs about uniden scanners there were literally hundreds of complaints... Don't you know this is not the only forum on the internet that addresses uniden scanner issues?

You've just moved the goalposts from SDS100 scroll knob issues to all problems with any Uniden scanner, which is an intellectually dishonest bait and switch.

Compare the number of posts in the clock battery / screen problem thread to all scroll knob posts. They are out there, but there aren't nearly the number. Encoder failures happen, but are not common like clock battery problems once were.

Wrong. I gave my honest assessment of my personal experiences with uniden... Mostly on the sds100 scanner. And yes there are literally hundreds of complaints on here and on other posts elsewhere that detail and great lengths the problems we are all having with these uniden scanners that uniden to this day still fails to admit...

Not about scroll knobs, which is what you claimed in post #70.

If you read my previous post which apparently you did not... I explained the intent of my post was a general review of my personal experiences with uniden on the sds100 as well as other scanners from uniden and my experience seeing other people's posts in fact hundreds of them on here as well as other blogs... Detailing their same problems which uniden consistently denies and says there is no known problem... You can continue to dispute my findings and I will continue to document my findings....

Or...we could get back on the topic of this exact thread.

You 2 can take your back and forth to PM's or the Uniden Tavern.

That screams to me "low quality component". I've radios that are are more than 20 years old with rotary controls that are in regular use and they still function perfectly.

What does it say about Uniden build quality and a rotary control knob that begins to malfunction on a $650 scanner after several weeks use? Something not positive that's for sure.
