Will let us know if yours gets worse, I'm very hesitant to even touch mine now but I do need to use the control for volume and channel selection. Let's report what we find if things get worse!

It does seem to be a small Club here but I'm sure there are more. I'm glad I have avoided having to send this thing in for repair on any of the other issues people have experienced.

Thanks again for making the effort of getting the spray... Bob.

I see more reporting this problem, let's see how this develops.
Thanks, it was worth the effort!

I'm having the same exact issue with my SDS-100. The Clicks When rotating the knob are " softer" then When I first got the scanner. So what from read on this thread, my only upavon is to send it to uniden for repair?

Unfortunately yes. Getting into the unit is difficult, and the encoder doesn't make it easy to get contact cleaner inside it.

So how do I make a request and what do I tell them so they know what to fix and fix it properly?

"Congratulations" on becoming a member of this club.
This rotary encoder is clearly predisposed to failure and is an inferior component.

What are your symptoms?

Basically on two of the click postions on my SDS100's rotary encoder whatever menu item it's supposed to be changing the values dance all over the place, from vol =1 to 10 then back to 3 etc. Very annoying and unacceptable in a top of the line scanner ($650!) that's only around 1.5 years old.

If I move it between any two clicks it jumps about 2-3 selections. My friends sds100's knob is firmer and doesn't have this issue.

Sounds like the behavior the rotary encoder on my SDS100 is exhibiting. It gets worse as well, I've watched it become a slight annoyance, it jumps one selection etc. to jumping all over the place at the same two click positions. The rotary encoder is clearly failing after very little use.

Are you going to talk to Uniden about this?
I'm outside the warranty period but this should not be happening on their top of the line handheld scanner.

As we've discussed before my symptoms are identical, it actually seemed to start just as I was outside of the warranty, somehow or other I think this club will get bigger and bigger.

I remember when the battery clips started breaking and it was only a few people who were admonished for causing the problem themselves and that it was isolated and only affected a few units and wasn't enough for anyone to do anything about it.

Look at that thread now.

This Thread will be the same. I don't remember but I think someone said that same thing here. Something like it's an isolated problem and not significant enough to be addressed.

Let's see what this thread looks like in 6 months LOL.

Maybe if a few of us members of this ever growing club contact Uniden re this problem they might do something, though I'm not holding my breath.

That's four of their top of the line scanners I've bought (BCD436, BCD536, SDS100 and SDS200) and all have had problems either straight from the retailer out of the box or developed shortly after using.

Don't forget about the other ticking time bomb. The infamous Cold Solder Joint.

I'm having the exact same problem with my bcd436hp. The encoder knob is jumpy and its been like this for months. It's starting to get worse. I'd hate to have to send it in to have it fixed if it's a big issue for everyone else, it should be cheaper or free like the clock battery.
