Hi everyone. One of the police depts i monitor/scan on my unication pager is simulcast on 3 towers in the cnty below me. It's 13 miles away. I can receive it on my unication g5 pager just fine as well as my motorola xts2500 radio. The freq is vhf p25 conv. I have the correct nac code as well. It will not receive on my sds100. Any ideas why? TIA

Depending on the RF environment the SDS-series aren’t stellar in the VHF and UHF ranges. You might try filters or IFX to see if that can improve reception

Have you held on the channel? What does the signal strength show when the G5 receives a transmission?

You may want to take the sds100 for a drive to see if it starts receiving the channel when you move closer to the tower(s).

Did you program the signal from the database using software? Or did you create it by hand? As you probably are aware, there are several settings that can cause a channel to not be received including:
  • Frequency not written to scanner
  • Favorite list not set to monitor
  • Quick Keys not enabled if quick keys are programed
  • Service Type not enabled (default is Custom 1 if not programmed from database)
  • Incorrect Audio Type (Analog instead of Digital
  • Lat/Long not set (if location control enabled
  • Incorrect NAC
  • etc

Good luck

While you are not seeing the dreaded "Nothing to Scan" message, you may want to check the area of the manual that discusses that. It may give clues in addition to the above.

I also second the "road trip" suggestion from above.

An observation; Why is it almost always the way when someone asks for help receiving a specific agency they fail to list city, county, state and name of agency? Are they afraid they are living in a police state where listening to specific agencies is against the law? It’s not.

Listing all the specifics goes a long way to help the OP by those trying to help.

Another point of interest may be posting on the Radio Reference regional forums page, listed by state, further down under the forums tab. I know some are looking for a larger audience, posting here instead of the regionals, but RR frowns on posting the same in more than one forum sub-heading. But there’s always the “ask” to have your post moved by an admin after it’s run its course on a broader forum within RR.

Try listening to it in "Quick Search" Mode:
Press the Channel button, then type in the frequency then press Channel again. Wait for the Unication to hear the traffic and see if it appears on the scanner.
  • If it works then on the scanner then the issue likely lies in the programming of the Favorites List or database.
  • If not then the issue is likely with the reception on the radio itself.
