I ordered a SDS100 on Sunday and says it will be here tomorrow, I had a Whistler WS1095 and that quit working after a year, when it worked it worked good, I wanted something with newer technology and my son had a couple of Uniden scanners and never had a issue with any of his Uniden scanners.

My question is what is the best programming software or is the Sentinel software the only one to use for more detailed programming?

I have both Sentinel and Proscan installed. Honestly, Sentinel is what I prefer for programming my scanner. I'd start with that and you very well might find that it will do everything you need. If you want to get into audio recording/streaming, Proscan has some of that next level stuff and is compatible with the 100.

You will definitely need Sentinel for firmware updates, profile editing, and for updating the Uniden database.

ProScan has extra capabilities such as the following:

  • Multiple Favorites on the same tree which makes it easy to Copy & Paste and Drag & Drop systems.
  • Find Duplicates
  • Find & Replace
  • Import from RRDB directly. RR subscription required
  • Import Win Clipboard or from a RR web page without subscription
  • Versatile Sorting options
  • Google Maps showing all the systems on a web page
  • Export nicely formatted web page showing any or all (user selectable) the FQK's, SQK's, Number Tags, and systems

Got my scanner today, I'm impressed had it up and running in about 10 minutes, My only question is with the Sentinel software, How can I change any of the setting for a channel besides the name that I have in my Favorites, like Alert tone, Alert Light, or delay.

What you cant change with edit profile you can change with edit favorites. googole easy to read sentinnel manual for a guide on using sentinnel.

I program with Sentinel and use ProScan for virtual display only and quite satisfied with both. I don't stream or rebroadcast so that feature is not implemented. I can't say enough good about ProScan, absolutely the best 3rd party software available for Uniden scanners. I have not programmed with ProScan but I have made a few tweaks that I save into the scanner and then copy to main (Sentinel) and resubmit into the scanner along with Sentinel changes. Best of all, with ProScan, is that Bob is very liberal with a one time license fee for using the software with multiple scanners. I paid one fee and use it individually for my SDS100 & SDS200, BCT15X, BCD536HP, and my BC125AT. You can't beat that with a stick.

I would avoid ARC536, the company has horrible customer service, and they blame others when their software those not work.

Personal I use Sentinel and Proscan.

I also use RadioFeed for my feed.

Well said, and great advice. I'd have to say in all my years in the radio hobby, Butel is the only company to out-and-out burn me for money and then ignore me completely like an immature eBayer. Heed his words and avoid anything ARC. ProScan is fantastic.

I would like to monitor dmr of course that’s why I’m asking if I have to buy directly from Uniden or does anyone have the upgrade file “if any” saved that they can send me ?

If you want to add DMR to the scanner, then you pony up the $60 like everyone else has done. There is no way "around that", and you'd be well advised not to continue asking if there is. :cautious:

Buy the key directly from Uniden after you register the scanner with them.

There is no "upgrade file". The DMR upgrade keys are specific to the scanner registration where they were purchased. There is no file that needs to be loaded, though there are some firmware updates from time to time, which are free. Even if someone violated the rules & 'gave' you their key, it would not work for your scanner. As GT said, if you want to monitor DMR on that scanner, purchase your own key.

Here is a key: E81C0C-B9C94B5D-C6B70E-D2F4

Now all you need to do is figure out the ESN of the scanner that belongs to, sneak up on the owner and hit them over the head, then take the scanner and you'll have DMR for free!
