OMG!! did I mention OMG!!....LOL
Any college professor's out there teaching classes on this stuff?

Got the SDS100 and unboxed, charged and selected zip code. Found a menu finally and still cannot figure out how to keep the screen on all the time. Speaker is quite something. Don't have the heart to unbox the 200 yet after reading the included manual with the 100.

Seems the scanning structure with flqk and sqk is a college course all in itself - trying to set the squelch level ?? any guesses??

More to come!

First off, start with this: Easier to Read
Much better than the one that came in the box

To keep the Screen on all the time:
Menu Button (red bottom button on left side of scanner)
Use the Volume button to scroll down to "Display Options"
Push Volume button down
Scroll to "Backlight Options"
Push Volume button down
Scroll to "Set Timer"
Push Volume button down
Scroll to "Key Press"
Push Volume Button down
Scroll to "Key Press"
Push Volume button down
Scroll to "Infinite"
Push Volume button down

To adjust Squelch:
Push the Function Button (green top button on left side of scanner)
Push the Volume Button down, and dial left or right
Push Volume button down to select

The so-called Easier to Read manual doesn't solve many shortcomings with regard to documentation of this scanner series (SDS-100/200). Forums on this site are about the only thing rescuing people so they can use these models. Although I am quite the Techie, I am embarrassed by how long it took to get my SDS-100 running to my desire when I first received it.

What is desperately needed most is a picture of the unit with arrows pointing to each item and a CLEAR description of each. Which direction do you pull on the battery clip to open the compartment, which button is the power, what purpose do the buttons on the side have, the same knob is used for volume, squelch and other functions.....

I could go on here, but my point is that documentation severely lacks on this product!

I concur on the documentation lacking!. Opened the box yesterday morning on the 100 and have gotten everything but what I want to hear.....LOL

Finally figured Sentinel has some hidden windows where settings can be adjusted. When you have defined a Favorite - right click on the Fav list and choose "Program Favorites List" and there is a lot of things that can be modified - Yeah!

As for my previous post about "hiding" unwanted items from the display - there are 2 modes - simple and detailed. I was hoping to be able to set the font size so I can see it without reading glasses while driving down the road. No happiness here.....

That opens the "Favorites List Editor". The various editing windows are all listed (not hidden) in the top menu bar under the "Edit" tab.

Youtube has helped me out alot with this scanner and Sentinel.
Getting questions answered here is SUPER helpful as well.
