Sadly, where I live the cost of the SDS200 doesn't even amount to 1 month of what I pay in property taxes.

Whoa! The combined cost of the 100 and 200 with the upgrades is about 25% of mine so I guess I’m not too bad.

Yeah Upman where is that un-boxing video of the SDS-200 ontop of that brown paper bag. Make sure you stay in line with the X36 unit unboxing video guidelines.

Not trying to start an argument, just asking...

Do you have to set the squelch at 7 for that band due to a high noise floor and/or interference?
No it's so when hooked up to my aerial I'm not hearing weaker NXDN burst 30+ miles out.

If any of the beta testers are allowed to post such things, I would be very interested in any reports on weak signal FM, low band FM, and air band performance, and "close call" on the SDS200 vs the 536.

I'm putting together a camping truck and am looking for a scanner. The debate is between the SDS and 536 series due to them both having location awareness. Location awareness is a critical feature as this is to be used primarily as a road trip rig.

I would listen to:
Ham repeaters (50,144,220,440, nearly 100% analog when in the sticks)
California Highway Patrol (39->42Mhz FM, analog, with some stuff at 800Mhz in cities) I have reasonable VHF low coverage from this antenna.
CalFire (mostly analog,150Mhz, with some air band stuff)
US Forest Service (analog, mostly VHF)
BLM (analog/p25 VHF)
Private Air Ambulance - (FM, VHF)

When I get farther out, I might care about:
Nevada Shared System - (EDCAS trunking with analog voice, 800Mhz)
Arizona Department of Public Safety - (UHF, analog)

I would also be interested in any comparisons of the performance of "close call" between the two scanner series. The "close call" feature is very useful to discover if there are others camping in or traveling through the same area we are in.

Uniden is the only game in town with a location-aware scanner, so they will sell me one either way. I'm just not sure which one yet.
Are any P25 digital simulcast systems on your list, or something you listen to frequently? If not, the 536 would be a better choice unless you want the color display.)

That's a "lunch box" portable computer. Weighed about 1,000 pounds I think. ;) My first PC in 1988 was an IBM PS2 with a monochrome monitor. I hate to tell you what I paid for it, but it was more than the SDS200 will go for.

Thank you! I knew I recognized it from somewhere. When I was a kid, my father had this beast of a "portable PC":

Humor is obviously wasted on some people.

It is a beta unit and not a final production unit so final production units will obviously be a more finished product. But by all means look for any little perceived flaw in this beta unit. It also does not have the glossy casing that a production unit does. It also does not have an FCC type acceptance tag on it... Do you want to add those to your list as well?
God Almighty people just wait for the final production units before offering pedantic criticisms.

Sadly enough on this forum there’s a thin line between sarcasm, humor, and criticism. When being critical those who get called out for it cry out “but that was humor” . If you say it own it and justify it, otherwise keep it to yourself.

I would like to start working on the opening.bmp boot screen for the SDS200. Does anyone know what the dimensions are?

I wonder if UPMan is going to do a unboxing video like has done with previous models.

I would think yes, but only after he takes care of any health issues he has had lately!
We all hope your feeling well real soon Paul.

How come the GPS doesn't come included with the scanner? It's comes bundled with the Uniden 885 CB/Scanner Radio which is under $400 and SDS200 user will have to pay $50.
