Yes, you are correct, DHCP not DNS. Common name is how you can address the device on your local network vs the actual IP address.
Ok, a hostname. Common name generally refers to a field of an SSL certificate or certificate request.

I'm just lucky I guess. SDS200 into a Vonets for several months now and it's rock solid. But I do have a mesh WiFi network so I'm saturated RF-wise. Also have the 536 on the WiFi dongle and it's stable as well. And 3 other scanners on serial to BT adapters that are solid also (after I replaced on onboard BT adapter with a USB one). :)
After over 2 years of my SDS200 being rock solid with this setup it has started not responding in ProScan several times a day. I have to power cycle the scanner to get it working again. While the SDS and 536 use different WiFI devices to access my network they are both on the exact same network and the 536 is still rock solid. Maybe the Vonets is flaking out? I guess I could buy another as they are only $25, but I suspect that isn't the issue.
