I don't think that there is a market for a $3,000.00 scanner the size of a microwave. Which you'd probably want as well.

Or another thought for the folks at Uniden, why not give us a true wide coverage scanning receiver. Something where we can have some capabilities down low for shortwave, side band etc? Maybe a 2nd or 3rd VFO?

No mileage in it for Uniden when Icom & AOR have similar products, massive cost of development just doesn't pay off. What Uniden does they do well in most cases & sales are good,no need to change the formula.

I have been told they don't accept wore out parts. It seems that they expect to be able to resell them and actually make some money off of them!

I just saw an AOR Receiver that the US price was $1,800.00 I do not think it has 2 VFO's I do not think it does P25 Phase 2 or Trunking either I do not think it does DMR Trunking either.

Sometimes I think the manufacturers of scanners and specialty receivers do not have their ear to the ground. Asking what features are wanted in a place like RR would go a long way in designing a unit. This is not to say that the community cannot come up with some non practical requests such as "strobing back light color based on the radio ID seen at certain times of the day" (yea someone actually asked for that as a FW option).

A HF(0-30ish MHZ) scanner would be a nice toy provided it has all mode and 100hz resolution. But these should not be mixed with regular scanners.

I am almost tempted to star a thread on designing the ultimate portable and mobile scanner or making a practical wish list for such a device.

Can they see a market for a new model, can they see a new model with a price tag of $1500 to 2000.Do they think there is a market for another mobile/home base unit. Or do we push the new 150 alone. Not just a market for a new desktop/mobile. At a cost of 2-3x that of a used vehicle.

A point comes where these price increases lockout more and more people. I can remember when Uniden Australia were walking $999 AUD for the UBCD396XT...

Ask a 20 year old 47 years ago 1978 almost $500 for a Scanner while making less than $500 a month. At 20 years old I was also looking $2000 for a set of Bose 901's with EQ.

I agree, I'll spend as much as I need if I want a scanner, all mine besides the SDS were 500$ plus tax, except the 310 I have it was cheaper. But I do think at certain prices there are some that will just not get it. Like if the SDS 250 comes out for 1000$ or the same as the 150 I'd definitely save to get it, but if it was 1100$ or 1200$ I definitely wudnt id just get another 200 or possibly 150.

Keep in mind the value in pricing before judging if something's "too expensive".

1: Compare with similar units with similar features.
2: Factor in inflation and dollar value over the years.
3: Since the Mighty Lord Emperor Caesar has deemed it so, factor in added tariffs into the cost.
4: Budget accordingly.

I'd say Uniden has been more than reasonable with the value of features, compared to similar scanners. And because of the whole tariff situation, they've actually shown considerable restraint in budgeting for the new SDS units. I don't think it's fair to blame Uniden for the price increase with the 150 or a potential 250 at this time.
