Secret Channels, Private Channels

Sunday night, I heard "Switch to private" two different times.
I wasn't near the PSR500, so I couldn't see what agency it was.

So the next question is: Private Call, or Private Channel?

I ran Win500 and inserted a Private Wildcard in my SL Simul scan list.

I went to the FCC ULS website and searched for 800 MHz conventional in Utah. Holy cow!
Davis Co, Draper, Logan, Murray, Ogden, Salt Lake City, S Jordan, Tooele Co, UCAN, Utah Co, Utah State, UTA, Weber Co, W Jordan, W Valley, all have conventional 800 MHz licenses that show active.

Some surprises:
WQKS734 Active, GE, CEDAR FORT, UTAH Co, 853.7625, STATE RPTR 3
WQKV937 Active, GE, EAST PARK, MANILA, 853.7625, STATE RPTR 3
WQLI959 Active, GE, MCCOOK RIDGE, THOMPSON, 853.4000, STATE RPTR 1
WQLJ426 Active, GE, GOSLIN MTN Wildlife Mgmt Area, 853.4000, STATE RPTR 1
WQLS495 Active GE, WOLF CREEK, 852.1250, STATE RPTR 4
WQLV890 Active GE, YELLOW LAKE, 852.7000, STATE RPTR 5

Tooele County has some 2.5 watt mobiles on 856.0375, KNNK632

W Valley has some 5 watt mobiles on 859.9875, WQIA466

Generally, low power comms can be used for direct communication between units in close proximity. i.e. SWAT teams.

From 2000 to 2004, some of us had access to information from some radios that were "mapped". I recall a WVC radio at that time had a simplex freq. of 853.4875. Funny thing is, that was before rebanding. That freq. is now State TA 2.

A mapped SLCO radio showed a trunked SWAT TG, and a non-trunked SWAT Direct channel. (freq. unknown)

An American Fork radio showed this:

N/A....AF PD TAC
N/A ...TALKAROUND
The N/A means that no TGID showed up because the channel was simplex.

And last of all, there are (were) four State Tac simplex channels:
I added the math to show how they would look if rebanded.
Tac 1.simplex.822.64375 -15=807.64375 OK
Tac 2.simplex.868.25000 -15=853.25000 OK
Tac 3.simplex.866.31875 -15=851.31875 OK
Tac 4.simplex.854.37500 -15=839.37500 (OUT OF BAND)

So now the questions are:
1. What are all these agencies doing with 800 MHz rebanded freqs?
2. Are any of the original simplex freqs still in use?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I don't understand your post. You started off with concerns over private call / private channels, then went to re-banding.

From the Wiki rebanding page :

After rebanding, Public Safety and Critical Infrastructure will have exclusive use of 851-854 MHz. ESMR systems (primarily Nextel) will have exclusive use of 862-869 MHz range, and public safety, business/industrial users, and low-power SMR's will share the 854-862 MHz spectrum.

That's a repeater input not a simplex channel.

The repeater output would be 45Mhz higher.

Here is why I went on to rebanding.
Several mapped radios showed simplex frequencies.
These were in addition to the known simplex freqs. ITAC, & State TA.
The radio mapping was done before rebanding, so the question/concern is,
did those simplex frequencies get moved down also?

Some of them probably needed to be rebanded, and some of them probably not.

And it was not so much of a concern, as it was to bring attention to the fact that these freqs might be in use,

Somehow or another, 853.4875 is basically an 800MHz itinerant channel. I've had it in my radios for years & have heard a variety of simplex business-type comms on it. Most recently, some construction company that was pressure-testing a pipeline near my home.

That was the first time I have heard of anyone calling I-Call private. In Michigan, there is a repeater for I-Call on every state-owned MPSCS site, which are monitored by the state police dispatch centers.

It is really not complicated. ALL Public Safety freqs. in the 866 to 868 MHz range must be re-banded. Re-banded means you subtract 15 MHz from the freqs.
