WELD COUNTY – A man died and another suffered injuries after two semis crashed head-on and burst into flames.

The Colorado State Patrol says the two semi trucks were engulfed in flames after both vehicles’ fuel tanks were ruptured at impact, 10 miles east of Ault Thursday night.

Troopers say they encountered a diesel spill when they arrived at the scene.

State Patrol says the accident happened just after 9:30 p.m. on Highway 14 near County Road 86.

The injured driver was transported by ambulance to the Colorado Plains Medical Center in Ft. Morgan.

One of the semis was hauling wood, and the other was an empty cattle truck.

The victims’ names were not immediately released.

The State Patrol says the highway was completely blocked by the crash, but was reopened early Friday morning.

10 Miles from Ault? This wouldn't be a 3B call then would it? And why did Morgan EMS receive this page and they also paged out Life Care Medical out of Sterling for MA. I heard it was a bit closer to Raymer like the CR141 or around that area.

One man was killed and a second was taken to Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan following a near head-on collision at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday between two semitrailers in northeast Weld County.

The identity of the man who was killed, from Nebraska, has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the other truck, Robert Schleining, 63, of Montana was treated for chest pain at the Fort Morgan hospital.

Colorado State Patrol spokesman Troy Nuss said Schleining was driving a truck westbound on Colo. 14 west of New Raymer when the eastbound truck drifted across the centerline and sideswiped Schleining’s truck. The 49-year-old driver of the other truck was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected as it went off the south side of the highway and burst into flames.

The highway was shut down until about 2 a.m. today following the accident.

The man is the fifth person to die on Weld Roads compared to two at this same time last year.

it might have been a 3B call...part of their troop is in Weld County....if you draw a line straight up north from the west edge of Morgan County, that's the area in 3B..

It was interesting Troop the first two troopers onscene were Sgts, S-33 and S-86. With C-1 either notified or responded could not catch which.

yeah 33 is the Sterling Sgt, and 86 is the Morgan Sgt...they must have been on the way to their desks or a break when it came out.......That was the best thing when they took over that northeast corner of Weld.....Used to hate driving up there
