Help ! Having a problem with Sentinel for SDS200 ... it suddenly won’t open. Program worked fine (on a new HP laptop with Windows 10 ) since Christmas, did some updating to scanner a week ago , went to do some more updating to talk groups, Sentinel will not open . Uninstalled Sentinel, downloaded it again .. still won’t open or display. What’s odd if I right click on the program icon, click on “open” .. I get the box that states Sentinel is running, you can’t open more than once ... but it’s not open on the screen.
not sure where to go from here .. any advice ?
FYI .. Sentinel for HP 1 opens fine .

Try doing Control-Alt-Delete and selecting Task Manager. If Task Manager shows More Details in the lower left corner, click this. Look for Sentinel under either apps or processes. If found, select it and click End Task. Then try to launch it again.

First question I always ask as an IT tech is did you restart your laptop since this first started happening? What about right-clicking then choosing "run as administrator" to rule out a permissions issue?

It's a somewhat common problem that Sentinel's "user.config" file becomes corrupted and will prevent Sentinel from starting.

Try this (If this doesn't fix the issue, it will not cause any harm) :

Be sure Sentinel is not running.

In Windows Explorer, look for this folder on your computer:

C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\Uniden

In that folder, you will see a sub-folder that begins with "BCDx36HP_Sentinel.exe_Url_"

Delete that entire sub-folder (it contains the "user.config" file).... be sure you are deleting that specific folder.

Re-start Sentinel... When Sentinel starts, it will re-write a new folder to replace the one that you deleted, and a fresh "user.config" file will be in that folder. That folder does not get deleted when you un-install Sentinel, so if the "user.config" file in there is corrupted, it will still be there when you re-install Sentinel.

I'll add this to our SDS FAQ....Mike
