Can't say i like how it looks. It does not seem to support P25 and some features seem to available between M1KE radios only. From the pictures i've seen it does not have a color display. i may be wrong but i think their hotspots is more versatile then their new radio.

All of the things you mentioned have been discussed on the SharkRF Forum.

Nice idea. But, I think I'll pass on this and wait till the bugs are worked out. Not exactly keen on the looks...price is a bit high.
Also P25 isn't/won't be supported because of the older voice codec it uses...M17 wasn't discussed why it doesn't have/support it.
Yep, I'll pass.

Hello, jazzboypro:

I'm a licensed amateur radio operator, and. I just purchased and programmed a Shark RF M1KE.

I've been using Zumspsot and the Shark RF Open Spot 4 Pro hotspots with my Icom ID-51A, and I must report that I'm very pleased with the performance of the new M1KE. The M1KE is a radio transceiver in the sense that it sends and receives GHz-range wireless signals to and from your Wi-Fi system, and it has PTT button and a speaker, but that's where the comparison to a conventional two-way radio ends. It is fundamentally an "internet connectivity device" because it enables the user to connect directly to the internet and link to a wide range of digital radio modes and systems such as D-Star, DMR, and Yaesu System Fusion.

The M1KE eliminates the need for a separate digital transceiver for each of those modes by serving as a multi-mode hotstpot much like some of the other hotspots available from Shark RF and other manufacturers. Whereas the Open Spot 4 Pro, for example, supports "transmoding" from a single-mode digital transceiver to many other digital modes, the M1KE accomplishes all that directly, and in a single package.

It's definitely not a scanner, it doesn't support P25, and it can't connect to rf repeaters, but like all digital-radio hotspots, it's a very convenient tool for amateur radio operators who, like myself, live in rural areas and are outside the range of digital-radio repeaters.

Thanks for listening!

I'm using 3 OpenSpot 3 with ID52'S and a D74 and i am also very satisfied with the results, transmoding works very well. I guess i just don't have the need for the M1KE.

Just read about the SharkRF M1KE while looking for recommendations for my first Hotspot. Does the SharkRF M1KE allow you to connect to it via VHF or UHF frequencies? Can it serve as just a regular DMR Hotspot? What else can it do? What use cases could you use it for?

I just saw this earlier today. I need to read up on this.

The BIG downside to the M1KE besides the price, and the fact it's Useless without internet connectivity. NO simplex, NO Vhf, or UHF ability, and NO ability to use it with a REAL Radio, which makes the Openspots by SharkRF a BETTER CHOICE ! What happens if your phone fails, or Internet fails ?? At least with your radio, you still have Analog / Digital repeater or Simplex use. Those don't exist with the M1KE.
