I was just visiting my buddy who works for West Valley Fire and their chief came in and mentioned that tomorrow they are doing the switchover. Not sure if that is just West Valley Fire or all fire agencies in Yamhill County. Just thought I would let everyone know.

Why didn't you ask him?

3rd alarm residential fire in Yamhill on Ops 2 (460.275 PL 97.4). I can hear it fairly well from where I am, which is surprising.

Yeah, its pretty powerful- I heard it with little static this past weekend when I was in Vancouver.

Hmm. Seems that Yamhill County hasnt programmed their radios to decode and encode PL 97.4 because they are getting "static" on law. I have heard it before on that channel, and it sounds like data interference ( beeping static and such )- As of about 15mns ago because of that noise they decided to switch to ops 1, which sounds to me like its not finished yet because I get terrible reception, all I can hear is that roller coaster simulcasting noise when they talk. Sounds absolutely terrible. And right now- I am line of sight with the High Heaven tower.

Odd that radio techs would have not turn on Incode/Decode on system.

On fire side of the system is YCOM still doing tones on VHF freq or moved to Uhf?

Well they I bet they have it set for PL encode, but not decode on the radios. Because I could only hear the interference when I have mine in CSQ mode.

I'm sure when the system is finished with no other maintenance to be done they will retouch the radios again and get rid of the old multicast channels and deal with the PL tones and all that.

As for fire tones, they are still on VHF. I don't think that will change- but they are still on individual repeaters for that (north, west, south and central...). It would be cool if that system went simulcast.

And as for OPS 1, at this point my scanner wont even pick up that channel.. So seems like they have some work to do.

It sounded better than WCCCA does on my normal drive to work in Tualatin. I had crystal clear reception almost all the way!

Law and Fire channels are not up yet or at least not finished what ever they are doing. The intent is to have al fire calls be on the Fire channel as primary and if it gets bussy, they will move to Ops 1 and so on. Same thing with the Law channel. Ops channels wil be assigned by YCOM to either fire or pd so you might hear fire one time and law the next on those Ops channels.
