Open Position: Lead Radio Technician

Closes: open until filled

Skagit 911 has an opening for a Lead Radio Technician with an annual
salary range of $66,800-$68-200 but is negotiable based on commensurate
experience. Skagit offers a full range of benefits to include;

Skagit 911 provides call taking and dispatch services to all residents
of Skagit County in support of approximately 40 emergency fire, law
enforcement and emergency medical services agencies. The Communications
Center supports 9 radio console positions, with authorized agency
staffing of 55 employees. In other work environments this position may
also be referred to as a Telecommunications Specialist or TelCom.

Skagit County/Skagit 911, in conjunction with four (4) other northwest
regional counties and Washington State Patrol recently completed the
installation of an eight (8) site looped IP based digital microwave
system supporting Skagit and Island Counties. In addition to the looped
system, there are several spur systems supporting multiple agencies in
the five (5) county region. This microwave system supports UHF and VHF
radios in both counties. Currently, there are multiple projects in
process or pending including build out projects to address narrow
banding impacts, simulcast projects and an open RFP for IP radio
consoles. This position will also:
* assist in the installation and maintenance of all two-way radio
systems and other electronic equipment in Skagit and Island Counties
* maintain and repair repeaters, wire-line base stations, mobile
and portable radios, intercoms, paging equipment
* install, maintain and repair two-way radio systems in all types
of emergency equipment for Skagit County
* program electronic equipment using programming software or
terminal emulation on a personal computer
* climbs communication towers following current safety regulations
* assists in the development and maintenance of radio sites
* participates in on-call coverage rotation 24/7 to provide
emergency repairs of essential electronic equipment

This is a brand new position with Skagit 911 and this person will be
directly involved in the development of the technical radio program for
Skagit County and establishing a functional radio shop. Currently, this
will be a single employee shop, with the goal of expanding technical
staff in the future, but this employee will work as a team member with
Island County/ICom technical staff.

Desired Qualifications: Two year technical college degree from an
accredited educational institution or certificate from a vocational
institute or three (3) years general experience in the design,
installation, maintenance and repair of land mobile radio systems and
related systems.
