Won't be anything like a CME but for all the calls streaming videos, it can load up a cell network. These guys are optimistic
Will cell service work during the eclipse? Here’s what 3 carriers expect
Cellphone carrier AT&T said people across different networks saw slowdowns during the last eclipse in 2017.www.wivb.com
Nexstar’s KXAN asked three providers – AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon – whether or not they expect any disruption on April 8, the day of the total solar eclipse.
Cell phone carrier AT&T said people across different networks saw slowdowns during the last eclipse over the U.S., in 2017. Since then, customers have gained access to 5G service—meaning nearly 100 times the number of people can be on the network at the same time compared to previous 4G capacity.
AT&T expects “no direct operational impact” on its network, a company spokesperson said.
Similarly, Verizon expects no impact on its network during the eclipse.
“In areas where people may gather to experience this event, we’re confident the additional capacity we’ve layered into the network over the past few years will accommodate any increases in data usage,” a Verizon spokesperson said.
A T-Mobile spokesperson said its “network is ready for the eclipse.”
The service provider is working with state and local agencies to add extra support for large gatherings. This includes “deploying additional cell sites” for areas expecting higher tourist traffic, according to T-Mobile’s eclipse prep website.
It was clear as a bell in SE Idaho, shoulda headed that way.COmmon Business Oriented Language - COBOL
Glimmer of hope in the WX for NTX, looks like a band of cirruform couds at solar noon which near eclipse time. Statocu may erode near that time as well so some viewing may prevail.
2017 - drove through heavy fog in the morning through the Platte Valley on US83, still very foggy until 1000 am. There was a pronounced cirrus streak that moved out of the way about 20 minutes before C2.
No risk no reward........
Not visible to the naked eye, but a radio telescope can see it.Anyone hear from that music star during the last eclipse that said it was ok to look at it directly because it's been happening for thousands of years and there wasn't many reports of blindness from it. He had made the decision to look at it directly.
Thanks

Center of the umbra is more like 8 minutes. This is only like 4 minutes, right?
Thanks
Joel
I lived through the 3/7/70 total eclipse while stationed at Ft Bragg; a truly unique experience, particularly with the birds looking for nesting spots for the 'expected' period of darkness. In my liftime, I have seen two total soar eclipse, the first as a young kid and hardly remember but the second was 2017 Idaho.
Dead center of the umbra. The exciting part was a NASA chase plane flying overhead.
Sort of a once in a liftime cosmic event, catch it if you can.
According to NASA, this one's max totality will be 4 min 28 sec.Center of the umbra is more like 8 minutes.
I am not sure. However, I can assure you I will be watching, likely over and over, on the news. I don't have to worry about eye assault. I will likely shoot an eclipse photograph of everyone staring up in the sky.Kind of interesting that some (a lot actually) web sites say it's safe to stare at the sun during a totality part since the "bright part" is hidden....
(just do a yahoo search for a safe way to watch the eclipse)
How to safely watch the eclipse? Tips from a Harvard astronomer. — Harvard Gazette
Lab and telescope specialist at the Center for Astrophysics details what local viewers can expect and where to watch on campus.news.harvard.edu
"It is never safe to look directly at the sun without proper eclipse glasses or filters, unless you are in the path of totality and in the brief moments of totality. Then, and only then, can you safely look at the sun without protection."
I could have sworn the problem was the area around the sun with all of the UV from the corona. Am I in error with this?
Thanks
Joel
They shouldn't need to wear eclipse drivers unless they look at the sun during the eclipse. i guess it's just distractions they are concerned about, and people pulled of the side of the road.So these started popping up on roadways across NYS. This one is on I 495 on Long Island. Wonder if it's really about safety or if NYS is looking for a quick money grab.

My son wants to see it and wants me to take him out early. The district put out they are giving every child glasses but said if any parent did not want their child to participate to let them know.So guess who gets picked up from school early.
