This thread was started in August 2020. A new March 15, 2022 FCC filing adds many more reasons for delays utilizing the 700/800 frequencies allocated to Somerset County.
It appears after reading this, Fire and EMS relegated to 500 MHZ only will have the pleasure of another Tropo season w DTV television repacked stations on TVCH19.
500 TRS airtime capacity issues remain during major incidents or weather events with radio messages and emails “return to your legacy systems”.
Rumor is Middlesex is headed to the 500 TRS shortly in addition to existing Dunellen.
Way to go Morris.
Not “technically” going to the 500 TRS since 95% of our radios are 700/800 only, details are still far from confirmed and i would guess at least 6-12 months before this becomes a reality. There are multiple concerns all around that are being worked out and nothing is officially official so mum is the word for now, besides what the usual rumor mill pumps outThis thread was started in August 2020. yes there is a county P25 site almost smack middle of town and have not had any dead spots so far in 3 years in my usage. PD radios are %100 700/800 only so i don’t believe they are going to the 500TRS either, as for whatever “workarounds” are used not sure how they would handle the “E” since none of the somerset PD dispatches are “E”Interesting. I thought Middlesex County P25 had a site in Middlesex Boro, and signal was 100% in buildings. Middlesex PD is Full Time E . Wonder what will happen if they move to Somerst P25
Automatic aid on all fire calls is increasing in some areas. This is driving some Middlesex County municipalities onto the Somerset TRS. u are getting much warmer lolAutomatic aid on all fire calls is increasing in some areas. This is driving some Middlesex County municipalities onto the Somerset TRS. Middlesex Borough is in the mix.
If not directly on the system, perhaps a interop TG or patch is being worked on.
On “multiple concerns”. Once 700/800 frequencies are deployed, will the entire Somerset 500 MHZ Cell be maintained or turned off? Timeframe? Will sites that have only 500MHZ, like Rock Ave Greenbrook then carry 700/800? @mdsxfire BOLO
Bergen County reportedly has a plan to add all new/migrate all existing public safety users to their 700 MHz trunked system, and retain the T-Band trunked system for use by county and municipal departments not public safety related.u are getting much warmer lol
as for the future of somersets 500 i don’t know seems like they are going to use every bit of the next 3 years to get the 700 fully built out
they could sub out the 500 system to the towns DPW/schools and other non priority/first responder agencies since the system is so established
slightly off but on topic i heard a small rumor dunellen may switch to the middlesex county system and see how somerset could work it out or look to change dispatch…..again
i would think that’s good use of their system as well, it’s already established and working except for the TV19 days, but most of the time those depts get a countywide+ system they can useBergen County reportedly has a plan to add all new/migrate all existing public safety users to their 700 MHz trunked system, and retain the T-Band trunked system for use by county and municipal departments not public safety related.
capacity issues? reception issues? hmmmmmI am seeing changes.
Police have been on Site 4 (700) only and Fire EMS Site 3 (500) only.
Of course this denies best coverage availability (at times) but was done for
a variety of reasons, the most common being talk path availability. When
a TG uses both 3/4 this obviously uses more resources.
No longer! I have been seeing Montgomery and North Plainfield PD and Sheriff register on Site 3 and appear simultaneously on both sites. Something new, something old.
Intentional or unintentional?
InterestingThere was an announcement about cutover that occurred via the announcement groups. Unknown what that entailed beyond the LE traffic passing over Site 3.
