Guys,

How would you guys feel about that? As is stands right now, anyone using the web import feature of any of the software programs to program their units for Franklin is going to get the Franklin site entered into their units with Somerset County's base/offset tables!

I'm pretty darn sure that a situation like that might dive a newbie nuts until they figured out what was wrong. I want to elicit some opinions from you guys before I make any kind of changes...

I just took a look at Somerset County, what your saying makes sense, looking at it from a new user point of view, or someone not reading all the notes listed for that system, might make it easier for someone to import it. I don't live up there or listen to it, so this is only my opinion, the locals may disagree. If you have the ability to copy a system, and just have to change the name sounds like a good move, if you have to enter all the info by hand that is allot of work, but, when finished, down the line it will save users from answering questions in posts about why that site doesn't work after importing it. Heah! Don't forget "We need change". What ever is decided, Good Luck! :)

Scott,

Excellent idea! They were two separate systems in the beginning. As long as we keep the TG info the same for both systems, this would make things easier for the newbies.

I think this is more of a question for Lindsay and the other DB admins -- I doubt that Somerset/Franklin is the first time this issue arose. While most talkgroups so far seem sequestered to their main zones I still see a stream of questions in the future about what Franklin talkgroup 8048 is, like we get for cross-affiliated activity on the NJSP systems. I've never cared for the way the Franklin configuration presented on the database page, let alone how it programmed in (I've never used that feature); perhaps there's an advanced way to specify different configurations for different zones of the same system in the database?

I could develop one custom multi-table which works for both zones but, as I recall, it would result in a high number of entries that would exceed the limitations of most if not all scanners.

Jim,

The reason I am posting this question to the group is that there isn't a way to sub-specify sites on a system, as you inquired... :(
