Anyone having success monitoring the P25 system on a regular basis? I have some issues with the settings and am missing parts of conversations etc...the files here (on RR) match mine, but something just still isn't right...I suspect the APCO Band Plan has something to do with it.

I'll just echo what I told you in the PM you sent me. The P25 system still has coverage gaps and does not seem to be transmitting from all sites the way the current Motorola Type II system is. I only have very good reception when I'm within about 5 miles of the county bldg / monopole. Additionally, only PD Regions 5 & 6 are on the system exclusively; everything else is still on (whether exclusively or simulcasting) the Motorola system.

I hear the system just fine over here 24/7 in Branchburg, but I'm also near one of the sites (and this is on both a 396XT & HP-1).

Also, FWIW - Branchburg PD moves to Region 6 on nights & weekends to consolidate dispatching load during times of lesser manpower at county (in case you have seen them show up there & were wondering).

Pedning Application "Request for Waiver"

For those are interested in the latest update on what the County is trying to do
this is a good read. It also explains what is planned for Bernardsville.

I have shortened the link to the FCC Waiver Appeal.

Kinda Doubt It

FCC will be forced to hold the line IMHO.

Call the pending County applications what you want (deleting sites that were never built)
the pending applications are clearly an expansion.

The FCC just denied Borough of Roselle Park. http://goo.gl/oE9oa

Oh don't get me started! We never needed a TRS! One square mile, 12k people folks!!! All agencies have the ability to communicate on RPPD 1 if needed. Just the FD Chief and DC's never do. PD and FAS also have access to RPFD/2400 Fire in their vehicles. Roselle Park was just looking to burn some cash on a politically savy new shiny radio system. Bleh! Won't matter anyway. Union County PD will dispatch everything in the county in 5 years...dear lord, sooner if we're lucky. (off soap box)

Somerset County has an actually valid case here. This is an existing Countywide(!) system, with a real coverage issue, which promotes large scale interoperability, and brings a large amount of municipalities off T-band conventional frequencies. They meet all the waiver requirements per the FCC's guidelines. I don't see why they shouldn't approve it, but I understand why they wouldn't. Hope they do.

btw...deleting sites that don't exist? Nice touch! lol.

New Talkgroup found on the DTRS System. Talkgroup ID: 211. It's definitely a testing talkgroup. Currently talking about turning repeaters on and off, enabling substations and such. Dunno what they're trying to do.

Heard as of 8/22/12 15:37

That's likely the OEM Radio Shop talkgroup; not sure if that's simulcast or exclusive, but I believe I saw it pop up a few weeks ago, too.

I've been hearing this new talkgroup on the Franklin site for the past couple weeks. ID: 57232. Sounds like a DPW and/or Inspectors TG. It's not listed in the database anywhere. Wondering if It's a simulcast of something? I wouldn't think so though.

I have 57232 as "Construction Code 1" -- construction code enforcement. I have 57264 as their channel 5, though I'm not sure whether it's actually theirs or if it's another department's or a common channel which is F-5 in their radios.

Hearing a lot of activity on the new P25 system on TG 735... sounds like DPW activity, perhaps Montgomery, but there's no record of it in the old county system database under its equivalent (11760). Thoughts??

Actually I have heard that too. I quick saved it into the group. I'll keep my ears open for more chatter. I've seen several new TGID's pop up; but I just figure they're simulcast from the Type II system. So, this one is probably a simulcast of SOMETHING. Unless...

You think they might be starting to slowly move new agencies, and county services to the P25 System? Hmm.

I'm assuming that everything is at a standstill right now until the public comment time-frame is done on the waivers submitted to the FCC.

If the FCC grants the waivers like they just did for Woodbridge, things will start moving forward again (testing notwithstanding, as they can still do stuff like that without migrating frequencies away from the Type-II).

I sure hope they do. This whole back and forth ordeal with the FCC is just proving to be an annoyance.

What's with all of these new talkgroups popping up on the Franklin Twp TRS lately?

57360. No idea what that is.

25680 - First analog TGID I've ever heard on this system. Most likely DPW or something along those lines.

And 55200- Just heard somebody say "testing" that's about it.

New ones have been popping up like crazy. And these three aren't listed in the database.

Btw, You should add these two in the database. Code Enforcement.

57232- Building Inspectors
57264- Building Inspectors 5

No new updates as of yet, the waiver application is still in 'pending' status.

Here is a link to the only document submitted to the FCC during comment period, a vote of support by the EWA in favor of the county.

System is Partially Built Out

According to "sources" The GTR's are in place (7 (mostly new or reused channels) on the 9600.

Now all they need is the FCC approval.

I am looking to pick up a used portable scanner so I can monitor the Somerset TRS, what are some good options? I see the Pro-106 and Pro-96 mentioned quite a bit. Do I need digital?
