Well, I think I have figured it out. I programmed in the voice channels and it is stopping on them and sometimes I am hearing the audio, alot of times not. It will stop on them and at the bottom of my screen it is saying p25:14a. I dont think my radio is decoding the digital very well. Alot of transmissions im missing. Any ideas what is going on? It was fine up to about a week ago. the city had been switching back and forth between starcom and the old analog system. Are they using a new tower or something? This radio is not updated with the latest 1.8 firmware. Its a gre psr 500

Starcom21 is in a multipath so you may want to experiment with your antenna(s) ? It's a slight problem here, but usually some repositioning allows my pro-197 to re-acquire the signal again.

Well, I did finally get it figured out, thanks to some greatly appreciated help from 800 mhz trunking. I did not have all the control freq's in there. It works great now other than a little bit of garble now and again.

I have heard complaints now and then from various agencies, heard some downstate officers making comments about try it on the repeater, I don't know if they actually think the "CAR to CAR" was like the old talkaround lowband non repeated channel or what, but a comment was made that it was better on the repeater which I think was a Dispatch channel.

The system has so many different users, and functions, and like has been said in reality the system is starting to ramp up and the towers, are getting loaded, they might have to add more frequencies, you figure you have hundreds of users, and receivers in Springfield specifically.

ISP's Dispatch probably monitors all districts, plus you IEMA, many other state agencies using Starcom in Springfield, plus then you have the chit chat from Ameren if you have them up there. I wonder how stable a system it is when pushed to the max. It would be interesting to know if they have a plan to expand the system if these style of problems keep happening.

In Springfield were they having problems with the old system before Starcom21? Are the police the only agency that moved?

BACK to the analog system tonight. They were having probs in some parts of town. Some officers werent getting anything at all, others just parts of dispatch's transmissions. So, at about 8 oclock, they told them to all go back to the "B" system, which is the old analog trunked type 2 system. I heard a sergeant telling officers with radio probs to document them in their radio log books before end of shift, and note where they were located when they were getting no signals.

I have noticed more garbled/unreadable signals the last few days. THursday and Friday it was bad. Does the humidity and heavy summer time air play into it? I wish they would stay on the analog system at this point.

Sangamon county and state are still on starcom, and have been. The county does have some garble to it from time to time, but neither of these agencies seem to have the trouble that the Springfield p.d. is having.

I also heard a lot of complaints of officers getting the busy signal when they tried to transmit...also when county did hourly status checks a few were checking in on the old channel 1 as well.. I opened my wildcard up on my psr-500 and heard a lot of ISP talkgroups coming in to our sites that are from up north so perhaps that may have attributed to the officers getting busy signals when they try to transmit.

Also, there seems to be alot of "2 units at once" or "several units at once" type of thing. I dont remember that much of a problem on the old system of multiple units transmitting at the same time.

I wonder if with the multiple towers it would actually be possible that some units not hear others yet dispatch hears both, maybe the system's checks to prevent doubling with another unit work only on a specific tower possibly?

As far as I know the Springfield area StarCom21 sites are not simulcast, has that changed recently?
