Squelch?

I have my UNIDEN 396XT scanner.....a beginner... what does the Squelch Levels do? Better reception? And is there a reference of what I should have it at?

The lower the squelch, the more sensitive the reception is on the radio. I keep mine at 2, just above the threshold.

I believe 2... I think thats what mine was set... dont really recall

Factory setting is 2, thats what my 346xt came out of the box with. Never really had to mess with it either, that setting works well.
