SO YOUR TELLING ME I CAN TURN MY ANTENNA AND TRY IT. IF THAT IS THE CASE THAN i WILL TRY IT SATURDAY WHEN IT STOPS RAINING HERE.. i JUST PUT IT UP AND FACED THE SOUTH CAUSE IT LOOKED GOOD ON THE HOUSE AND TOWER.. BUT WE WILL SEE..

Turning it to try certainly can't hurt by any means. Half the fun of the ham/scanner hobby is experimenting and playing with things to see how it effects your setup!

iM NOT TRYING TO GAIN ANYTHING BUT MORE TRAFFIC FROM THE NORTH AND EAST. iM SICK OF LISTENING TO THE SOUTHERN PART OF MAINE!!!!

So, just a thought here. Call me crazy, but if you don't want to listen to agencies in southern Maine, you could just remove them from your scan list or reprogram your Uniden to remove those "offending" frequencies.

Hi MaineRadioMan. I have an ST2 also. Put it up last year about 20' above the peak of my metal roof.

I did a little adjusting (turning/rotating) with it shortly after the install and I didn't find a drastic change. I do have a lot of mountains and hills surrounding me but I found, for my purposes, having the antenna facing towards North was the best for my situation. I have a slight mountain with plenty of tall trees towards the North-East, about 50' from my house, so I didn't even try pointing it that way.

I'm in New England and I can sympathize with you about the rain. I think we're all in it for a few days here.

Good Luck

10-4. thanks steve.. I really have less mountains I think to the northe and east. South is just a clear shot. but I wanna try something different and pick up more Central and Northern Maine. I already here vermont like there next door and Canada.

I get the Burlington 162.400 Weather channel like its in my yard

tweaking ST2

Did you try turning the antenna while listening to it, or having someone listen for you. I don't have mine 100' up, but I will sometimes use those distant weather frequencies for "tuning" purposes.
I already pick up a station on just about every weather frequency anyway, but the difference in signal should be evident. That is, IF there is a weather freq in the direction you are seeking...

This screen capture should make it clear that the ST2 is NOT truly 'omni directional'.

It shows reception from two completely separate ST2 antennas.

The top is facing EAST, the bottom is facing WEST.

It shows Satcom narrowband transponders.

If you only depended on one of those antennas, in only one direction, you wouldn't even know the other signals existed.

ST2 Directivity - East vs. West on SatCom narrowband transponders

Edit:
And for completeness, using prcguy's X-Wing antenna, you can see all of the transponders are really there.

That also depends on what kind of mast or truss it's attached to. Also, higher frequencies are more directional than low. If you use a 1.5" mast that only extends to the central mounting bracket, the directional effect for most freqs is minimal.
