St. Johns Public Safety - P25 <-- I'm very familiar with this system, been monitoring since it's beginning but I've had a couple of questions that I always wondered about:

1. The St. Augustine site listed... I get reception on it but have never received talkgroups on it. All traffic comes through the county's site (site 2). Any info on that St. Augustine site?

2. This system is not labeled as a simulcast system in the database but isn't it the same set of frequencies used on multiple towers? Isn't that "simulcast"? I monitor it ok so I'm thinking it's not simulcast like Jax is, just not understanding why not. That said, now that I have 2 radios monitoring it's interesting how they'll take turns missing transmissions.

Thanks for for any info...

1. The St Augustine site is an 'air site'. It's located on the tower near 16 & 95. Years ago they used to broadcast Fire Rescue Primary TG 10000 but it's been quiet the last few years.
2. It is a simulcast system, as I travel the county I experience LSM. My residence sits in the middle of 3 towers, I have areas where I can't receive it.

Thanks Jeff, that answers my questions perfectly. The closest tower to me is off CR208.

I always felt like I received it well for being simulcast but I've started to notice when a local Ham is on the repeater here he always has fire/rescue on in the background and he's getting traffic while my scanner was quiet... and now that I've got a second base scanner going I can tell I'm missing transmissions.

I guess I should have sprung for a SDS200 instead of a 536. I just wanted to add recording capability since selling my TRX-1.

I had a 396xt and the 436hp and none of them like the system. Even in Eagle Creek no signal at all when visiting a friend of mine was living in there. When I had the sds100 with me it picked up traffic like crazy.
