Has anyone tried monitoring on an older scanner like the BCD536 or similar scanner yet? I was wondering if they will be reliable on this system.
It will highly depend on the exact location of the radio and everyone's experience will be different, but it will technically "work." But probably not all that reliably as the listener is likely unaware that they are missing calls.

Thanks I was hoping someone tried. I just set up 2 old 536s one in Kent and one in Newcastle to monitor the old system with Proscan web server. It was too easy, too cheap, and works too good to be true, I guess in a few months it will be. LOL

You are going to get a significantly reduced coverage area on the new P25 system with any device if you are outside of Delaware. If you are using a scanner (except maybe the SDS series) within Delaware, you will likely notice some missed and some garbled transmissions on the new system due to simulcast distortion. I am monitoring with a Relm radio and cannot receive the new system well from Philadelphia. But the legacy 800 system I can program in all the voice channels.

I can receive the new P25 system from Berlin, MD south of MD90 & 589 using an SDS200 connected to an outdoor antenna. My G5 was marginal indoors, however I just purchased a charger / amp with a telescopic antenna and that restores full bars. Obviously I am located outside of the system's intended service area, but that can be an advantage as it reduces the potential for simulcast distortion.

Yea with the SDS scanner and the Unication pager I think we can all but throw simulcast distortion out the window. Berlin, you're just about 10 miles from the state line and likely not much further from a tower on this system, which given the topography you really should be close enough. Parts of New Jersey or around Philadelphia is a little more of a stretch - like 20+ miles from a tower. On the legacy Moto system that is usually enough, but won't cut it on the new system. It's just a different modulation.
