Has anyone tried monitoring on an older scanner like the BCD536 or similar scanner yet? I was wondering if they will be reliable on this system.
It will highly depend on the exact location of the radio and everyone's experience will be different, but it will technically "work." But probably not all that reliably as the listener is likely unaware that they are missing calls.

Thanks I was hoping someone tried. I just set up 2 old 536s one in Kent and one in Newcastle to monitor the old system with Proscan web server. It was too easy, too cheap, and works too good to be true, I guess in a few months it will be. LOL

You are going to get a significantly reduced coverage area on the new P25 system with any device if you are outside of Delaware. If you are using a scanner (except maybe the SDS series) within Delaware, you will likely notice some missed and some garbled transmissions on the new system due to simulcast distortion. I am monitoring with a Relm radio and cannot receive the new system well from Philadelphia. But the legacy 800 system I can program in all the voice channels.

I can receive the new P25 system from Berlin, MD south of MD90 & 589 using an SDS200 connected to an outdoor antenna. My G5 was marginal indoors, however I just purchased a charger / amp with a telescopic antenna and that restores full bars. Obviously I am located outside of the system's intended service area, but that can be an advantage as it reduces the potential for simulcast distortion.

Yea with the SDS scanner and the Unication pager I think we can all but throw simulcast distortion out the window. Berlin, you're just about 10 miles from the state line and likely not much further from a tower on this system, which given the topography you really should be close enough. Parts of New Jersey or around Philadelphia is a little more of a stretch - like 20+ miles from a tower. On the legacy Moto system that is usually enough, but won't cut it on the new system. It's just a different modulation.

Hearing fire service type comms on tg 211 this evening off the Sussex site.

TG 211 should be KFIRE1, per the P25 x16 to Motorola TGID formula.

They identify as Kent Center - is that the callsign KFIRE1 uses?

Also, saw a Join for tg 209, but no voice Grants.

Here is a partial list of tgs seen on the Sussex site as of this morning. The number at the far right is the number of hits since the start date, third in from the right. The column 2nd in from the right is Last Seen, which means that there were voice Grants today on tgs 211 and of course 1093 :

Wow, I must have something wrong. At work I’m on top of the Milton tower and at home I’m on top of the Lewes tower. The only thing I get is the 1093. At home I have my SDS200 on discovery and every time I check it, zero hits. At work I have my SDS100 and my G5.

Update
Ok Im now getting 211-KFIRE1 on Sussex site's. Sorry!

I have been using a Relm radio and yesterday I finally got New Castle Fire Tac 3, and it was busy! I don't think it was active the day before. New Castle Dispatch has been coming in since Monday.

Lots of activity today on the Kent site some and some phase 1 as well.
685 Dover FC company channel?
703 Magnolia company channel? *User 18293 Phase 1 audio
805 Dover PD 1? *was showing encrypted
269 Bayhealth Kent *was Phase 1
715 K-Fire Police *Same 18293 user phase 1 audio

I am assuming phase 1 audio because I can hear them through unitrunker and I do not hear any of the other traffic. Unitrunker only does phase 1 audio natively.

Divcomm is going to have to enforce TDMA radios. It will be interesting to see how many channels per site are licensed for DDM.

I confirm the observation of Phase 1 voice on the new system as well. Yesterday while I was returning from a trip, I drove through DE on US 301, and the NCC site was carrying Phase 1 audio on certain talkgroups.

Also to note is a Peer Site 17 on the P25 800 MHz system. NCC was showing Peer Sites 12 and 17. I'm thinking that it might be a supplement to the Wilmington area, but I was unable to locate a specific site location, as I was on an assignment for work and unable to stop. I got the signal strong for a brief section near the Wilmington Airport, and then it started to fade away as I went over the Delaware Memorial bridge. The CC was 853.0875. The NAC was 680 but I wasn't able to get anything else. I literally got it for about 5 seconds and then disappeared so the info might be subject to change.

I've been wondering how these radios ended up on the new system without them knowing. Each radio needs reprogrammed so I wonder what the thinking is here, someone would of had to intentionally build the codeplug which should only be the people deploying the system. It doesn't make much sense to allow phase 1 at all with the amount of newer equipment that is in service these days.

My understanding is there are a lot of fire company and privately owned radios that are allowed on the legacy state system. There are also members who have programmed the company and private XTL/XTS radios themselves in the past, and may still be doing this with or without official authorization to access the new P25 system. I would be surprised that DivComm would allow unauthenticated radios on the new system, but perhaps this is only an interim situation.

Yeah gotta be an interim solution for some reason, just seems like a strange one. Why take the time to build that xts/xtl codeplug, I would have taken that time to write up a qoute for new radios instead lol. The end user has no idea what p1 p2 is, If you make that station "work" the end user will have a hard time understanding why they still need to purchase a radio. I doubt anyone is self programming at this point especially without a template or legit system key that would be pretty ballsy with moto working on the system. I didn't notice any funny user ids yesterday while watching.
