Sorry if this is routine, as I said, just getting back into the hobby and never did listen to ATC much, was always more interested in RR comms and local public safety - but, am now a first time homeowner in the next town over, and our house just so happens to be pretty much right under "KILMA".

"GLARE08" (79-23256) has been circling over Lakehurst for sometime now, shows as the Golden Knights plane on jetphotos.com

In addition, once I do get a scanner back up and running, I understand it depends on antenna height, local topo, etc., but does anyone have any idea on what kind of range of reception I could get? I understand that higher altitude planes can be heard for hundreds of miles, but I'm thinking more in the sub 10,000' range (traffic related to KWRI, again, inexperienced in scanning ATC).

In my case, my antennas are up in my attic & at higher altitudes (10,000 ft & above) my reception range is routinely 150 miles & if they are really high, up to 200 miles. At lower altitudes (10,000 ft & below), because of local obstructions (trees & bldgs), my reception range is around 50 miles.

If you can put your antenna fairly high up & outside you should be able to at least as well if not better depending on your local environment.

Hope this helps

Some of you guys are also interested in Hf. In my files I found a couple of HF freqs used by HMX-1 acft. I've heard these guys on these freqs before so I know they are valid. Not sure how much they use HF lately but thought I'd pass them on

9020.0 USB (Cactus primary)
11243.0 USB (Cactus alternate)

And for those of you who do SATCOM I have:

SATCOM
CH 6 T 297.650 (DOD Channel?)
R 264.050?

CH 10 T 310.950 (USN Fleet Relay Q-10 / 25 Khz)
R 269.950?

CH 11 T 293.975 (USN Fleet Relay N-11 / 25 Khz)
R 260.375?

Do 311.0 and 323.800 always multicast? I have them in two scanners and they always seem to have the same radio.

Only when E-6B's are broadcasting an EAM on them... 311.000 also doubles as Pittsburgh Steel Ops for their tankers.
I think a few other bases use that 311.000 also.

1438- AF1 (VC-25 # 82-8000) off ADW heading for Steeler Town.

1440- Bengal-45 (flt of two--prob F-18D VMFA(AW)-224 MCAS BEAUFORT SC) working ZDC (307.275). Tells ZDC they will advise if the wx becomes a problem. Cool---one of the Bengals said he was switching to ZDC Woodstown (363.0) but has a stuck mike on 307.275. Can hear him breathing etc. Some confusion, he doesn't know what the problem is. Now working ZDC Brooke (285.45). Bengals working ZDC Blackstone (235.625)

Actually now that I think about I had heard the GHOST callsign before. I even posted about it in last years thread. D'oh. I wonder if it's a cross-country callsign used for other missions besides the usual Grimm and Oswego ? I was going to check the LiveATC archives but they appear to be down this morning.
GHOST used to be popular Edwards AFB callsign for their test aircraft. They used to have a Pax C-20 called GHOST 1 that would
stop at Andrews every once in a while.

1445 Open aircraft Mike on 307.275 says problem with his radio..Had to unplug it! Having problems and some 4 letter words.
"Right behind you" Sorry Ron good timing , yeah sounds like Bengal-45 back on 363.000
1452 They are A/A 258.400 still sorting it out.. Now blaming his wingman's radio. Now stuck on 258.400.

AirScan, are the VT F-35s out again up in VIPER? I haven’t been listening to LiveATC ZBW (UCA09/ART08) and I’m picking up comms on the 158th FW’s A/A freq (314.4)

They were. SPRUCE 11 (x4) going Tactical called push CH13 again.

LiveATC fixed their archives, I was trying to find GHOST 01 but no luck, I did hear PYTHON and APEX. Did you ever hear GHOST working ATC ?

If true, then a little curious (to me). Langley is not that far away, and I believe the last time the F-22s pulled CAP duty they operated out of Langley.

Maybe they are starting the runway work --
