Guys,

A friend & fellow listener in KY sent me this yesterday:

Yesterday (Nov 5), I spotted another E-6B (SHADO 41 - Reg. 164387) coming over the Appalachians at 13000' towards my location. He dropped down to 4000' a couple of miles north of me, near Lancaster, KY & did tight orbits again, before heading SW. He landed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma. The orbits the aircraft made look similar to the patterns flown when a trailing wire is deployed over the ocean, but other than that, I don't really know what they're up to!

This link has a couple of pics of the E-6

1250 MEXICO-01 in decent down to FL 290 on ZDC 363.000
1255 A/A we are about 150 miles out of Langley.
1256 MEXICO's over to ZDC 285.450 FL270.
1300 MEXICO's over to 281.400.. no joy. Push ZDC Swann 360.700 decending to 13k.
No coastal trip for them.Making them head down the Ches Bay

DUDE-1 flight ZNY 269.100 now push ZNY Millville 381.450.. No joy on that.
DUDE-1 push 323.300 ZNY Millville High
1314 local DUDE-1 on ZDC 360.700.. going down to FL 17k. Langley bound F-22's?
Maybe they were the MEXICO-3 flight from earlier.
Mark,

You sure of 381.45? Can't find it listed for ZNY or ZDC. But 281.45 (ZDC ACY) would make sense as well.

From memory that frame went from Tinker to Pax earlier in the week as RULE08. On the 5th it went back but did two orbits much like any orbit so I'm intrigued by the comment that they were like it would when using the VLF wire. Callsign suggests fairly routine aircrew training.

As people are so keen on collaborative ADS-B systems it's a shame they don't log the ICAO address that was actually being transmitted instead of the registration...far more use!

Guys,

So what happened to Global Thunder? Haven't heard anything on HF. Maybe I'm just not listening at the right times? Just as I'm typing, I see EAM broadcast on 8992/11175. By the time I got my HF set up, I missed it. :(

Good question...when does the exercise period end?

FDM you heard would have been MANDATORY for ROMEOFORCE 74QPTTXEKJN3GJ5TAQO6WIO3G5HBH3

Not sure, but thought it was Mon or Tues of this coming week. Thought Sat & Sun were supposed to be the big "action" days, with Mon/Tues being admin wrap-up/debriefing/exercise evaluation.

Good morning everyone - sorry for the late response, it quickly turned into another tough but typical Rutgers afternoon. Thankfully, the Field Hockey and Women's Soccer teams are both playing for their first B1G Championships today. As my Father, a Navy vet and longtime RU employee, used to like to say - "With spring in your step, you can achieve the idea of greatness."

Anyway, below is my video of the flyover. Didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but thats what I get for using a cell phone. Fittingly, a Bald Eagle (resident of the nearby Raritan River) also happened to be flying over the stadium prior to the flyover. One of the helo's was showing up as 18-21032 on ads-b (previously mentioned on this thread), not sure on the other two:

EDIT: Callsigns used were ROUGE 97, 98, 99 per thread on NJ forum.

Yeah 381.450 is oldie on my radios.. Havent heard in years.Prob controller, pilot mix up. Was thinking same prob was for zdc 281.450.

Seems unlikely the controller meant to handoff the DUDE flight to ZDC 281.450 given their position at the time, and that their route didn't pass through that sector.

My guess is the controller did say 381.450, the old ZNY08 frequency, it's still listed in the FAA AFF File. I tried to confirm it from the LiveATC archives but they were missing at the time of the handoff.

ZNY08 (VHF 124.772) sits over top ZNY09 (323.300) and extends from FL340 and above but is rarely used as a stand alone sector. Which might explain why you have not heard it in use for a long time ?
