01-0041 SAM874 ADW-Colombia SC-Somewhere in WV (maybe Clarksburg?)-ADW

I wonder if SAM874 along with SAM038 is a training mission. The flight paths are too odd to be flying someone important.

The Mass guard guys take over for the Langley-based F-15s again? Was there an issue with the Fresno fighters?

If they do not have VIP aboard they are not supposed to be using the SAM designation, even for training.

That's what I thought but in Dec 2018 a SAM flt Gulfstream (SAM003) flew to the Caribbean during the government shutdown. This prompted a pentagon reporter to query the USAF as to what it was doing there. According to the USAF, the acft was "performing a routine training mission with no DVs (VIPs) aboard the aircraft." So apparently the SAM designation can be used for training flights.

Hearing PUDGY-61 KC-46 inbound on 323.800 like it is their CP freq.
McGuire give them their own CP freq?

Heard them call their CP but did not look at the frequency. Managed to get some pictures through the clouds as they flew close by.

Hearing them now on 237.150 with inbound report.....maybe they grabbed the mic and did not check the frequency the first time.

Probably monitoring 323.800 for EAM.

That is one example in 2018 SAM flight to Carib but I wouldn't believe that news media training excuse for anything :)
A lot of 3-4 star Brass scattered around the US for Holiday so SAM's probably rounding up the Pentagon Cats to get back in town.

Speaking of St Maarten, a 2021 year in review a video of C-17 wet departure recreating hurricane winds for tourists bracing themselves :)

I listened to the BAF LiveATC archive. At 1107E you can hear the scramble order on one of the NG Ops freqs (listed as 123.050 and 309.000 on LiveATC).

"*Alarm going off in the background* Scramble, SLAM1, SLAM2, 2 F-15s, immediately heading to the Compton air space. Contact HUNTRESS 260.9, backup, 228.9 as soon as possible. Bearing 230, climb is 1608. I authenticate Bravo November."
SLAM1 responds: "SLAM1"

at 1113E, after getting takeoff clearance, SLAM1 is warned by HAWK ops. "SLAM1, this is HAWK Ops, just watch icing in the clouds up to about 15000 ft, otherwise have a safe flight."

Would have to agree with Mark. No matter what party is in office - the military always manages to keep their same process. I doubt that airport is a training flight. Harrisburg , Scranton and Atlantic City yes - nice tropical island for training - doubtful.
