So stupid question. But why are the bomber bases in the Midwest and west nut none on the east coast? My first guess would be we are covered by our allies to our east since China and nk are to our west bit I figured I would ask.

I think the reason bombers and ICBM site were in Midwest is that early on in the Cold War that kept them out of range of Russian ICBMs.

At the time NK & China weren't our major focus/problem.

Saw flyover on TV--neat looking formation but was a bit too dark to see them clearly.

The following was posted on another list by a guy in Illinois

The B-2’s usually make a day of it when doing a fly over and may be up for hours. The B-52’s flew from Minot AFB ND and the B-1s from Ellsworth AFB SD. I was tracking B-52’s on Mode S and B-1s may have been with them. Flew to Kansas City and made an east turn then straight down I-70 flying over Arrowhead stadium where Chiefs play. My brother lives in KC and I let him know when they were close and he heard them go over. I had them on UHF in St. Louis area and then the B-52’s again when they flew home.

B1s were already in FL Friday morning I belive it was. Saw in a FL milair group. They were staying at MacDill AFB.

Curious to know where this antenna is located? I can't even hear KPHL Tower with that clarity and I am eight miles away with a D130J mounted in my attic.

I thought after 9-11 Huntress can now transmitt and use any FAA radar and transmitter site? That was alot of the problem that Norad couldn't see into the US airspace. I belive they can come up on any remote site now.

Looks like he's in a holding pattern. Maybe AF1 back up? According to published sched POTUS should be on way home by now. Must be running late. Hard to get old folks moving. :giggle:

And hard to get them onboard the plane. POTUS boarded AF1 and he appeared to trip very slightly going up the stairs but quickly caught himself on the railing. Should be on approach to ADW now.

Is it over the years/months of scanning mil air that you've learned the areas to which ranges they would use?

Not sure how many radios you have but I use 4 for milair. I run 1 on uhf centers, 1 on a/a freqs, 1 on Air Refueling and 1 on Tac/Huntress/MOAs. I have all the radios programmed the same. That way if something in going on and I'm at the radios I can turn on and off what I need. Almost 90% of my monitoring is unattended. I use a laptop computer with ProScan software. It logs all the freqs that were in use and the audio from them. I have a outdoor discone antenna at about 30ft. That goes to a multicoupler and then the radios. As far as info, read everything you can thats in your surrounding areas. Watch any of the forums to do with milair for freqs and info. Look at air charts online also for freq info. Put in any freqs that you think maybe in your listening range. Also trying running a search in the 225-380mhz range. Run small groups of it at a time. Don't try to scan everything at once or you will miss stuff. Most comms are short and brief.

Based on monitoring via my PA site and checking with a few friends locally, the ground transmitter was probably in New Jersey. My SDS200 in PA only has 3 bars when BIGFOOT transmitted and someone southwest of me did not hear them (closer to Wilmington).

Next time there is a CAP in Wilmington - will just need to take a drive and see if that Gibbsboro site is the source. Since I cannot hear the Millville remote site at three bars it had to be closer to PA. Additionally, based on my location 6 miles away from KPHL - the site was not at the airport itself as I hear KPHL very loud and very clear.

I visited the site today 10:00 local time, nothing was active, I didn't receive hits on close call or any ARTCC freqs for both ZDC and ZNY.

I am going to take a ride this afternoon to KACY which I believe is 127.7 CASINO ZDC and KMIV which is ZDC and ZNY, Cedar Lake and Woodstown.

127.700 (ZDC Casino) is listed at the Sea Isle VOR. 133.125 (ZDC Sea Isle) should be at KACY, at the VOR. KMIV RCAG looks like it is actually about 4 miles NW of the airport, at 39 25 05.5N 78 08 05.6W. I'm curious what you hear, please let us know.
