Off topic, but interesting.

Posted on another list:

Russian troops’ tendency to talk on unsecured lines is proving costly

What do we make of this quote: Some Russian personnel may use such radios
as a means to blend into the wide spectrum of civilian frequencies — like a
needle in a haystack, Bendett said — rather than military frequencies that
are more limited and detectable with the right equipment.

C-37B VENUS 60 from Andrews and a P-8 from Navy Jax descend to 5000 feet and maneuver at a slow airspeed around Roanoke, Virginia at 10:55 am.

Listening to the LiveATC tape, VENUS 60 was shooting practice instrument approaches at Roanoke airport. P-8 TIGER 55 requested descent to 5200 feet and 30 minutes of VFR sightseeing around Blacksburg, perhaps a Virginia Tech alum onboard.

The three Rhode Island C130's from Quonset are still heading down the coast, s. of Charleston. For the whole route they have been behind an N/A P-8 and 2 n/a probable fighters, but the C130's have fallen a bit behind. The P-8 originated Jacksonville, so my guess that is the destination for all 6 a/c.

A E-2D Hawkeye Zeus #600 from Pax River VX-1 Pioneers up and about in my area strong signal on their Ops freq 341.000.
Mentions have some com problems and would like to try lower freq in the 350 range for their link and have a Hawkeye
technician in the radio room there as well.
I'm getting some strong digi data bursts on 388.650 then few minutes later next 10 second burst was 388.700 then later 388.450
1500 local #600 is up on Pax control 345.100

SAM-565 #99-0004 off Spain NW bound departed from Algiers returning US with Sec of State.

#600 is also on 345.1 Which I have as a VX-20 freq. Small correction to your post above, 341.1 is VX-1 Ops freq.

Just had GUMP 60 flight of two C-130s land at Portland, Maine (KPWM). Headed to the MAC Jets ramp. No ADSB signal at all on the inbound. I will see if my son can snag a picture of them or their tails. He works at the airport. I have no clue who or where they are from and where they came from.
Ed,

The nearest call is have is GRUNT C-130H WV ANG | 130AW | 130AS Charleston / Yeager AP WVA
