AF2 lifted off from Chicago’s Midway International Airport at 7:19 headed for DC. The plane spent an hour and 50 minutes on the tarmac with the VP aboard before takeoff.

A White House official shared this on background:

Prior to the Vice President’s arrival, Air Force 2 was refueled for take off. The plane’s weight along with the temperature outside caused the rear landing gear to sink into the asphalt.

An airport tug was used to move AF2 out of the divots and to a new location for taxi. Mechanics are conducting final checks prior to our takeoff. The landing gear was inspected with no issues found prior to takeoff.

Looks like somebody's getting those orders to Adak, Alaska in February. The 757 main landing gear has dual bogies and isn't known for ramp weight issues in my experience. Normal VIP workflow is to fuel the plane before the boss arrives.

It will be interesting to see if this incident hits the news. The Veep stuck in the pavement might be a metaphor that the ever-loyal media will choose not to publicize.

I'm guessing that AF2 may have been parked on the circled asphalt ramp next to Atlantic Aviation.

0750 local GRIM-99 E-4B #74-0787 climbing up NE bound from Andrews headed for AR-20
maybe with KC-135 DEED-41. Also a KC-10 lurking up that way #85-0028
Mark,
Just checked my recordings and caught DEED 40 and 41 setting up for AR-20NE on 341.750 at 1146z with a contact time of 1202z then the last two transmissions were heard from GRIM-99 saying he was at FL250 ready for contact.

1419z I just noticed a KC135 on ADSBx that took off from Bangor then suddenly turned and landed at CFB Greenwood in Nova Scotia. Callsign REACH 198 58-0129 Scramble database has it listed as 171 ARS from Selfridge ANGB.

Just found a feed on LiveATC for CFB Greenwood (CYZX). Monitoring to see if I hear anything as to why they suddenly dropped in.

GRIMM 99 is indeed 74-0787, I somehow got the tail number wrong earlier.

0845- Eagle 1 (N22PP) off Anacostia heading for ADW area.

Actually, I believe N22PP uses the EAGLE TWO callsign, you can hear it on today's LiveATC 1230Z reel for DCA helo freq 134.35. N11PP is EAGLE ONE. N33PP is EAGLE THREE but I've never seen it used on an operational Presidential support mission.

1527z Update:
Just heard REACH198 working tower then clearance on CYZX liveATC feed. Requested clearance to Fort Wayne via runway 08 departure. 37 souls on board, 6hrs of fuel 205,000 lbs.
No word on a problem if there was one, maybe they did a temporary fix and decided to not try crossing the pond. Looks like they're heading back home!
