Just popped in from Saturday chores and a couple McGuire KC-10's about.

HOIST 94 KC-10 #84-0186 arriving Langley 1200 local on CP 251.250
REACH 361 KC-10 #79-1710 arriving McGuire 319.400 around 1230,bunch of writeups.

Mark

HOIST 94 departed McGuire for whatever mission it has at Langley. (At 1520, a monitor in Georgia reports there's a HOIST 95 dragging a FIRST 11-16 flight of F-22 Raptors to NAS New Orleans. Don't know if this is the same KC-10 heard as 94 or if it's a second one.)
Edit: An hour or so later confirmed there was a second KC-10 using HOIST 95. The original HOIST 94 had another Raptor flight in tow using callsign FIRST 21. Number of F-22s in that flight is unknown.
REACH 361 is arriving from the west coast where it was logged at 0600 our time.

COBRA 72 (OC-135B, 61-2672, 45th RS) coming into the area around 1320. It's arriving from the UK where it had been flying as OPEN SKIES 12T through yesterday.
1347: COBRA 72 with Andrews Tower for landing runway 1L...118.4

Late 1200 hour I had a Pakistani Air Force Gulfstream 4 through the area. Tail was J756. It has been logged down south the past few days. Last noted passing over ACK so perhaps on his way home....or not.

Also late 1200 hour I had a Dover C-17A (07-7173) scoot out of there using callsign VOLT 24. I had records of other C-17 units using that callsign but this is the first time I've noted Dover using it. OTOH, perhaps my memory has gone to hell.

Kind of interesting to me (and perhaps to no one else) is trying to follow the callsigns used by the E-4B types from the 1st ACCS. They use one-time calls. Aircraft 74-0787 has had some interesting ones this month:
16 AUG - KIRK 64
15 AUG - KIRK 76
14 AUG - BUTCH 45
13 AUG - TILLY 32
11 AUG - PURDY 95
09 AUG - TROPO 22
08 AUG - TREGO 89 (Used 03 & 06 AUG also)
A couple of those are difficult to understand if heard on a noisy freq.

1220: RAVEN, flight of four A-10s from the MD-ANG at Martin State heard with arrival message to RAVEN Ops on 347.2. A couple of minutes later they came up with MTN Tower 297.2 where the flight leader explained numbers 2/3/4 would land but flight leader wanted to do some low approaches. Granted. 2/3/4 touched down at 1231, number 1 made four low approaches and on the fifth approach he finally touched down at 1240.

1345: REACH 176 (C-17A, 06-6167, 436th AW Dover) w/Andrews CP for arrival message. Apparently, Andrews doesn't have the flight on its log so there's a bunch of back-and-forth about the authorization had been received, etc. Asking for Customs/Ag so coming from overseas. I notice it was last logged in Scotland at 0633 our time this morning. Explains he's the Capstone mission. Also has a D/V on board that needs to catch another flight so special arrangements for him requested....378.1

1350: For you NASCAR fans, Jimmy Johnson's Learjet 31 (N480JJ) flying overhead at FL 320. Jeff Gordon's plane was noted last night. Racing in Michigan this weekend.

1355: VADER 04 [maybe...arrived at Andrews last night using that callsign but is on a medical mission so might now be using an EVAC callsign. I missed the call but know he's the one climbing out] (C-130H, 89-9104, 758th AS Pittsburgh) departs Andrews...118.4
1359: BOXER 099 (C-38A, 94-1569, 201st AS DC-ANG Andrews) wearing out the pattern around Andrews for the past 35 minutes...118.4

1443: Flight of four F-16s from NJ-ANG heading home to ACY...currently with ACY Approach 327.125 and on interflight 138.425
1448: Interflight 143.6 active - probably F-16s from DC-ANG at Andrews...confirmed SCARY flight of three.
1448: BATON 92 (EC-130J, 99-1933, 193rd SOS PA-ANG Harrisburg) trying to give arrival message to BATON Command...mentions 35 passengers and one baggage pallet aboard, 12K on the fuel...has trouble communicating and says he'll call again when he gets closer....395.1 (Calls back at 1453 and repeats the message. This aircraft has been logged down south in Georgia and Florida for the past few days.)
1453: SCARY flight giving mission report to SOF...38 miles to the south...139.9
1455: SCARY calling Potomac Approach....270.275 (no joy x3...flt ldr tells flight to switch to 335.5)
1455: SCARY to Potomac Approach, requests descent to 6,000 and non-standard 3 miles front to back formation...335.5
1456: BATON 20 gets parking in Spot 5 and wants to know if someone is there to unload the baggage pallet...395.1
1457: SCARY flight handed to Andrews Tower and check in 10 miles to the south...349.0
1502: SCARY flight leader asking permission for 2-3 circuits...349.0
1505: SCARY 3 lands...1 and 2 going around again...349.0
1509: SCARY 1 reports he'll chase 2 for a close (of the formation) and then full stop...349.0
1513: SCARY 1 and 2 report gear down and are finally done...349.0

And that's enough logging. It's on to normal Saturday stuff outside for me.

I figured REACH 361 must have been in from the West.Loud and clear and long on the scope plus no Euro heads up...

VOLT was Charleston callsign.Maybe they are using Dover tail for weekend work.
Logged that callsign also on screen.

Last night just before midnight, STEEL 81 (KC-135R, 58-0045, 171st ARw PA-ANG Pittsburgh) was noted heading to the east. Today, it's reported on the ramp at RAF Mildenhall along with a half dozen other KC-135s from various U.S. based units.

I didn't get a chance to mention earlier that the 756th ARS at Andrews apparently got one of their clunkers back into action. KC-135R with tail 57-1512 hadn't flown in about a year. In fact, it was the one they towed across the field at Andrews for the static display during the last airshow. Anyway, last flight noted was the end of August 2007. Well, today it arrived back at Andrews early in the 1600 hour after making a REACH 151 flight to Europe and back. When I was talking with the crew at the airshow I reluctantly kept from asking why they put that old wreck on display that hadn't flown in so long. I had to bite my tongue as they told stories of AR work. While aboard, I did however, manage to get myself onto the steel "bed" the boomer uses while refueling. (On the KC-135 it's done from the prone position.) That's a fairly confined space and not at all comfortable. Of course, at the average age of the typical boomer, it wouldn't be that bad at all. Anyway, 57-1512 is among the living once again.

Those two sources are all I can find at this time using Google News.
********************************************

Late in the 1600 hour this afternoon, a C-130H, tail 86-0410 arrived at Andrews. I was later out but autologged it departing Andrews around 1830. It used callsign DEUCE 51 and should be from the 95th AS/440th AW Bragg-Pope. Some databases show 758th AS Pittsburgh for its affiliation but I believe those are old listings from when it was still there before being transferred. The callsign is spelled correctly as DEUCE for this unit. It's only the KC-10s from the 305th AMW at McGuire that spell it DUCE.
And one of the goofy little things I keep track of, this C-130 unit does not create the suffix from the day of the week. The DUCE KC-10s do however. (Monday = 1x, Tuesday = 2x, etc.)
********************************************
At 0930 this morning, BOXER 45 (C-40C, 02-0203, 201st AS DC-ANG Andrews) departed Andrews and flew to the northeast. I thought he was on a local mission. However, I see that at 1830 (our time) this evening, that aircraft was logged flying across Switzerland. Nice weekend jaunt.

Here is what happens when idiots play on the train tracks.
I think schools or govt needs to better educate young people about train crossings.
Hint: Trains can't stop or swerve out of the way!!!
We lose more young people in the USA F-ing around with train tracks then war overseas!

Griffen CP

Not a big deal for those down south, but up in my neck of the woods I'm hearing more aircraft than usual calling Griffen CP on 378.100.

Sat I heard COBRA 71 [61-2672] calling around 1708Z
Sun I heard EVAC 30600 [93-0600] calling around 2032Z

I believe both aircraft were still north & east of HTO Hampton VOR, so I don't know if they're calling earlier or what. It's nice for me since I've actually had to move 378.100 from a 'hardly heard' slot to a more prominent position.

John, I think that's possibly due to the more northern routing they use for summer flights to/from the UK. Rather than hitting the U.S. at Nantucket, they are arriving over Montreal and then roughly down across your area. The required "30-minutes-out" call would put them within range of your location.

Guys,

This is the second batch of B-1s going back and forth in the last couple of weeks. Had Rama 31 & 32 in HF about a week ago caming back from somewhere and having to stop over at Mildenhall. Anyone have idea where these guys are going? Using Diego Garcia for bombing runs in SW Asia?
