Tin,

0813 EST- Have Trooper 11 w/ZDC (133.9) cleared to Fayetteville NC. Female pilot. The MSP used to have a BE-200 using that callsign. Did you get him/her on your box?

I had a Hawker Beechcraft 350 N390MD (A483E0) registered to Maryland Dept of State Police
at 0813 this morning.

This has sure been an uneventful day. Started late - around 1030 and didn't get first hit for an hour - and this is all I've logged today...
The C-32B from McGuire (02-4452) was running full ADS/B on both flights.

E-6B 164404 is climbing out. Callsign ends with "08". 133.9 Heading towards Norfolk.
1705- Sounds like STILT-08. Attempting to contact HUNTRESS on 364.2.
50 miles south of Elizabeth City and I barely hear them.

Unknown type AE0191 displaying DILLON3 at FL410. A CT-43?

1752- N400MP FBI G IV. Been known as ROSS-40 in the past. Level at 6150 for now.
1557- Descending
1803- Just landed at IAD. I was listening for it to go into HEF. After getting real low without hearing anything I figured I better tune into IAD. Never heard the pilot, just tower telling 400MP to switch to ground, etc.

I have heard you guys quote radio traffic that mentions this "barrier". What is it exactly and what is it used for?

Andrews has a portable emergency barrier system for mainly Navy fighters aka tailhook.
They also can certify with special Eglin F-15 but never heard one used before.ref below article.
Sometimes you will see an Andrews notam that barrier system is out of service.

So I'm guessing that when AF1 or E6B ask if the barrier is out, they wan't to make sure it is not out? Safety hazard?

Don't mean to contradict what Mark wrote but there's a different type in use at a lot of military air bases that's a barrier system rather than a hook - including Andrews.
From the Boeing site: These devices, which do not depend on arresting hooks on aircraft, stop an aircraft by absorbing its forward momentum in a landing or aborted takeoff overrun. These systems are most commonly net devices but they also include older devices that catch the main gear struts. The barriers typically are located in the overrun of the runway.

Sure has been a quiet day, hasn't it? My Mode-S log above looks like about two hour's worth rather than almost an entire day.

Watching yet another AN-124 coming in (2321) heading for Charleston. It's arriving from Ul'yanovsk Vostochny (Ульяновск Восточный) in Russia (UWLW) - which, by the way has the second longest runway in the world. It is 16,405 feet long and 344 feet wide. The An-124 is flight VDA1015, registration RA-82043 from Volga-Dnepr Airlines.

And where is the longest runway, you ask? In Tibet of all places. Qamdo Bangda Airport is 18,045 feet (5500 meters) in length. It's also the highest at over 14,000 feet which is why the extra long runway is needed....low air density.

2335: Flight NAO 998 (B763, N760NA, North American Airlines) also coming through on his way to Fort Campbell KY.

2350: The E-6B (164404, VQ-4, Mode-3 is 4601) is on his way to Pax. I've been watching him come down from New Jersey. He just contacted ZDC-Calvert on 133.9 descending and looking for runway 34 at Patuxent. Callsign sounds to me like STEEL/STEAL 08 (Travis got STILT 08 earlier and I won't argue for or against either version.)
2352: STEEL 08 cleared to 2500 feet...133.9
2353: 404 to Maintenance saying he'll be on the deck in about 5 minutes...310.15 (Lost from Mode-S at 4200 feet at 23:53:36))
2353: STEEL 08 also working Patuxent Tower...123.7 (I've got heavy static on this freq and couldn't understand a word he said)

2356: WOA9602 (DC-10, N139WA, World Airways) departing BWI and heading for Lakenheath (EGUL)...121.9 BWI Ground/119.4 BWI Tower/119.7 Potomac TRACON Departure/125.45 ZDC-Woodstown
0012: WOA9602 cleared direct Nantucket (ACK)...125.45

0007: REACH 801 (B763, N120DL, Ryan International) arriving from Europe. Descending into this area. (Full ADS/B...perhaps for BWI...directly overhead MTN at 0020)
0012: REACH 3117 Heavy (C-17A, 03-3117, 183rd AS MS-ANG Jackson) climbing through 10,000 for 14,000 feet...cleared direct Woodstown and to FL 230...w/ZDC-Woodstown...125.45
0020: REACH 3117 cleared direct Nantucket...125.45
0022: REACH 3117 cleared to FL 350...then told to stop his climb at FL 330...125.45
0023: REACH 1194 (C-17A, 01-0194, 437th AW) into the area at FL 310.
0027: REACH 801 with BWI Tower for landing...119.4
0030: REACH 801 on the ground, taxiing to Gate E-1...119.4 (This will be a flight bringing troops back from the desert.)
0033: REACH 1194 checking in with ZDC-Woodstown at FL 310...cleared to Nantucket...125.45
0041: REACH 1194 just advised ZDC-Woodstown that he just got word his tanker has cancelled and needs to divert to Gander (CYQX). He's cleared direct Gander after Nantucket...125.45

Decided to check the network to see what's happening where it's daytime. E-6B 162784 is heading SE over Iraq to the south of Al-Kut.

RIPLY73 02-4452 C-32B is heading ENE off the SE coast of England.

Bah, those are the longest _publically used_ runways; depending on what you mean by 'runway', Groom has one that's 23,000+ and Edwards has one that's 38,000+ ... 8/

Yeah, I guess the definition of "runway" is open to debate. Or the definition of "is" - to quote #42.

He's had a long day. After all that flying around this area this morning, he crosses the pond for more. At 0039, he's being logged in Germany. He didn't have the callsign turned on when he was here this morning or afternoon but turned it on about the time he got to Nantucket to head across.

Kind of funny...I'm tracking five aircraft on the ground at BWI and none in the air...oops there's one airborne now - an Air Canada flight.
