When Stillwater PD officers say 10-8 "HBO" what does that stand for and what does it mean? Also when Stillwater FD is hauling a patient what do they use to communicate with Stillwater Regional Medical Center and other hospitals? I have the HEAR channel programmed in but hear nothing. Thanks...

That would be cell phones. Lots are using them to call in now. Much easier than messing with the radios.

SPD uses a lot of those acronyms. HBO, UTL=unable to locate, GOA=gone on arrival.

Yeah I noticed. It's alot different from Tulsa PD's radio chat for sure...
And is still on a radio system that doesn't have a computer telling you when you can transmit.

Oh, yeah, and one of their dispatchers was dispatcher of the year!

Now I might be wrong on this but I believe that would be illegal. Cell Phones 'can be' intercepted. EMS falls under HIPPA rules and they require encryption beyond just digital. I just had this argument with my boss and the city EMS about our new system. Check out our new facility's webcam http://69.155.172.242:81/

New 100' tower going on top soon...

no where in security portion of HIPAA does it state EMS radio traffic has to encypted; in fact no where in the entire act does it mention radio traffic at all

Besides, as always, the patients identification is simply not put out over the radio, at least not by anyone with their head on straight.

Exactly. Only folks who listen to EMSA's bogus reason for going encrypted are going to buy into that "encryption requirement" BS.

The best one I've heard so far is when a triage nurse at a local ER refused to tell a police officer investigating a crime if the suspect was being treated there, and cited HIPAA  Got Obstruction?

About a year ago I was transported to SMC in a stillwater ambulance because of a nasty norovirus (uggh). Anyway, I was coherent enough to remember one gentleman conversing with ER staff about my condition using a phone mounted in the ambulance. It may have been serviced by "cellular" service, but the hardware was part of the ambulance.
