My suggestion would be for GRE to default the step size to the most popular one for each band, and then allow the user to change the step size, from 2.5Khz to 100Khz.

uniden sells to radio shack why wouldn't GRE. The more sellers the better for the manufactuer. RS carried the BC396 on line at full suggested price.

Oh Me Either

To much money in it for the radio manufactures to be able to sell ""secure" comms to agencies, why would John Q public need or want to know what is going on

But there is always hope

How about there is not enough call for it. If you want to listen to an EDACS system with ESK, there is nothing stopping you, unless of course you are referring to your local system which is mostly ProVoice. ESK is no more "secure comm" than EDACS without ESK, it just ensures that you are not going to program a rogue radio on the system.

Asking scanner manufacturers to include something which is so little used is fruitless; there is no economic reasoning behind it, check just how many systems are using ESK. And, as I said already, there is nothing stopping you from monitoring a ESK system, you just have to do it the "old" way.

My suggestion would be to have one mode that would automatically identify PL, DPL or NAC codes and display the proper one.

That way, we would no longer have go guess if the frequency uses either PL, DPL or NAC, or program mulitple memory locations with the same frequencies, one having PL decode mode and one with DPL decode mode.

since we're adding suggestions....

I have both a Pro96 and a 396t.
I like the belt clip on the 396t a lot more.
I would like to have the same or a similar belt clip on the PSR600.
A PSR 600 would need a shoulder strap.

Didn't the PRO-433 and 528 replace the PRO-2055 and PRO-97? Less capable models without alpha tags, tone code squelch and tone decoding? Its like Radio Shack took a step backwards in time. The 2055 had some serious problems which I suspect caused its early demise from the shelves at RS. Who's fault was it that the 2055 had a inherent design flaw in the LCD displays, GRE's manufacturing processes or problems caused by manufacturing it to Radio Shack's specs? The PRO-2051 is another unit that was manufactured for RS. The radio was a near exact clone of the BCT-8 without remote capabilities. The bone heads at RS re-wrote the manual and it was a complete disaster. Since these six new units are not being marketed by Radio Shack, my guess is that GRE wanted to do it right this time and use other retail outlets. Don't get me wrong, I have been a loyal Radio Shack customer for over 30 years, but if the company continues in its present direction (i.e.: only concerned with selling cell phones), it will eventually fail.

I'm glad to see that everyone wants the selectable steps.... I emailed GRE about adding the step selection and they never replied back. And i don't think it's going to happen as the design stage is over on this scanner.. It is really too bad that no one from GRE is going to read any of our posted issues here.. If i had to guess... There firmware fixes (just like the past ones for the pro-96) will be geared for trunking/digital issues.

Don't give up hope based on that because in the past we only got digital related updates because that's the only thing "updateable" in those models, the DSP.

Now they can update both DSP and CPU firmware with these new models.

Why don't you want GRE to read any of the forum? I think their response to our requests would be something people want to continue.

I don't think that's what he meant when he stated he was sorry that any GRE reps would be reading this. I thought he meant no GRE rep would be on these forums in the first place. These forums are not a direct line to the manufacturer, meaning the likely hood of a rep with any clout would be reading these forums.

It would be very nice though if they did read it, but like so many others said, even if they did read it, the PSR-500/600 is already post production. Firmware/Updates are our only hope.

Gotcha.

I'm pretty certain that GRE reps read this forum.

yep... That's what i was trying to say. :)

*If someone from GRE happens to reads this, please consider adding the following steps of 5khz, 6.25khz, 7.5khz, 8.33khz, 10khz, 12.5khz, 15khz, 20khz, 25khz, 50khz, 100kHz for manual tuning and manual search setups to the PSR-500.. Thank you.
