• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Cleaning out some stuff at the FD, I found 4 "Swissphone" brand pagers. I have never heard of them before in the fire service.

I have no idea what to do with these. I have listed them on our GovDeals twice for $30 for the lot and no bites. I have done some research on them, and it doesn't look like they were wildly popular here in the US. We are on an 800MHz system now so these would not work for us, and we don't issue pagers anymore since we have the ActiveAlert app.

What are these worth?
What can we do with them if they don't sell?

What frequency do these operate on? And do you have some sort of programming cable for them?

I have no idea what to do with these.
Racom (Racom.Net) is/was a dealer for them in Marshalltown, Iowa. There are a few Iowa counties that were sold UHF POCSAG systems I recall. Your right fire/EMS paging is has become passe. If they are POCSAGs, a lot of hospital systems still use these pagers, i.e. Mayo Clinic.
Good Luck.

Oh man, I sold/worked on those in the 2006-2009 era.......... had to have a special jig and lots of software/firmware undocumented features.

Not being a pager nerd, it was a real learning curve.

There was not a significant user/support base for them. There were certainly pockets of folks using them, but I never saw the widespread adoption of them, especially compared to a Minitor that you could just program and go vs "tuning" of the Swissphone. I think they got past the tuning and fw/sw bugs in later versions, but I had moved on at that point and no longer worked with them.

My gut reaction is that few people are runnning them professionally and the "fun" factor for hobbyists is "low". The pros already have their needs met and don't want to introduce used pagers and the non-pros have no idea what they are looking at.
