TACN?

I regularly visit NE Tennessee and I'm curious as to what I would be able to monitor on TACN? Is there a site that has such info? I don't want to invest in a scanner if everything in the area is encrypted.

The Radio Reference Database has all the TACN info both D &T and DE & TE

Thanks for the reply. Looking at it it appears about the only things not encrypted are Fire Dispatch and Tennessee Highway Patrol. I don't think it would be worth spending the bucks for the limited time I spend on my trips up that way.

I agree, @jcherepy - I'm in Johnson City and sadly my BCD436HP spends most of its time in a cabinet now. I bought it before this area went to blanket full-time encryption and found it quite useful. But certainly would not buy one at this point due to lack of available comms in the clear.

I have a SDS200 and BCD536HP. The 536 is picking up the TACN but the SDS200 is not. The SDS200 is picking up everything else. But not the TACN system.

I live in Surgoinsville TN. The dispatch for THP is monitorable, also Hamben Co Fire and EMS. Not much else. You will hear accidents on highways that THP responds to which is of interest if you travel alot.

I have a SDS200 and BCD536HP. The 536 is picking up the TACN but the SDS200 is not. The SDS200 is picking up everything else. But not the TACN system.

Is the programming identical between scanners? Are the service types turned on for the talkgroups you want to hear on the SDS200? Is TACN contained within the same favorites list as "everything else"? If you assigned quick keys at the system, site and/or department levels (and favorites list level in the event FL is different than "everything else") they'll need to be turned on as well.

Everything is the same on both. The 200 picks up sometime but not as much at the 536. Thanks for the reply.

The SDS200 should be blowing the 536 out of the water. I'd suspect there's a programming issue on your end.

TACN is the only system I am having problems with.
