• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Proof I don't lie.

Tall knobs were a thing they were playing with. I guess it didn't make it to production, or will be an option.

No movement on this thread for awhile…anybody have any updates from end-users who now have the radio or Tait if the DMR capability has been released or at least announced more than Tait stating “it’s on their product roadmap radar”?

I just got a quote for TP9800. No DMR functionality for now. Right now, the only tri-band P25/DMR radio is the VP8000.

VP8000 doesn't have DMR yet. Firmware update to include DMR will be later this year.

Correct, my bad. I'm really hoping that Tait will upgrade to DMR/P25. It would be a really powerful radio at a great price point. My department is using Motorola, but we are considering making a move to Tait.

Tait TP-9900 is the soon to be released multiband P25 & DMR radio. Same form factor as the rest of their portables. Very slim radio compared to the competition.
Interesting! Can’t wait! Wonder why the model change…maybe they could not flash DMR as a flashcode upgrade to the 9800 for hardware reasons?

I've heard that the radio has to do some level of reboot when switching from a P25 to a DMR channel. Might have something to do with that.

Extremely slim I might add.

It may be similar as to why you have to tell the radio to "change mode" when going from a trunked to conventional network. Either way, I'm really excited for this radio! It will probably cost a pretty penny when released, but it can also replace many of my other radios.

This is getting exciting between the VP8000 and the TP-9900 dual wielding for all band all mode bragging rights.

Compared to the VP8000, the 9900 looks so much more compact and wearable compared to the brick sized VP8000

I've recently taken delivery of several Tait TP9800's here in Australia.

So far in my own personal experience, they have been outperforming the Motorola APX radios that I have used for several years now. The audio quality is superior, the form factor is much more comfortable to hold and when compared to the APX8000XE multi-bands, the value for money is second to none. I was able to purchase 2 fully optioned 9800's for phase 2 trunking with all bands enabled for the price of just a single APX8000XE with similar options enabled.

Again, this is just my own opinion, but even down to the programming experience, I find it much easier compared to Motorola.

How does the Tait Line compare to the Kenwood/EFJ Line?

Everyone has their brand loyalty but Tait is making a BIG push in regards to multi-band as is Kenwood/EFJ. To answer your question, Tait is used heavily in other countries as well as the US with many happy customers and reliable products. With that said their overall product line as far as subscriber units are not as extensive as Kenwood but what they do have works very well IMHO.

I like Tait's OTAP/Management software. Very easy for non techy people to go out and never screw up any programming. the laptop software has like two buttons. read and "GO!" go programs and updates the firmware to the latest version you've allowed it to have in the Browser software. All done offline after the software downloads the database. Nice tracker of how many radios you still need to program to current version.
