Morning!

Now, I know this sounds like a "less-than-intelligent question", but I'm wondering if the Texas Department of Transportation is the same thing as the State Police? Here in Louisiana, the D.O.T. are road repair crews.

I've never seen a Texas State Trooper (the yellow and brown Mustangs) vehicle while traveling over into Harrison County (Waskom).

Respectfully submitted,

Texas Department of Transportation builds/maintains them.
Texas Department of Public Safety Patrols them.

Mustangs have been gone for years. Texas has never had yellow and brown cars. Highway Patrol cars are black and white. The majority of which have been Crown Vics. Now that the Crown Vic is no more most of the new cars are Chargers. License and Weights Troopers are going to Tahoes.

And the truckers have always called them DOT cops...hence the confusion even in Louisiana.

Louisiana State Police.....

Hi Lou, ALL,

Well here, they are pretty well marked. The Weight's & Measures guys even drive the same as the regular State officers, but here, the State Patrol's hide better behind large billboards, in clumps of trees in the Interstate median, or park on an overpass that has entrances both ways, so they get you coming and going, LOL!

Oh, "heads up" at the I-49 interchange at Carmel in DeSoto Parish and the "33" along I-20. ;-) That's all I know about.

Hopefully, this afternoon, I'll have my OWN computer going. A friend is coming to help me set it up, RIGHT, where no "HANKS" or "Boogers", can access my machine. He's even offered to write me a database program to log my ham contacts as well as Part 90 receptions. :) It will be in the "shack" so I
may also have Ham Radio DeLuxe capability for PSK-31, PSK-64, and other digital HF, VHF, and UHF modes. But, since I love to "ragchew", the mic will always be handy.

Respectfully,
73,

I am surprised you have never saw any highway patrols around the Waskom area. Used to see them around there all the time when I lived in Atlanta going around that way to Shreveport. Texas Highway Patrol crown vics look like this, of course around the East Texas area you will see the weights and measure guys in pick ups quite a bit, but they are starting to get away from those and move to tahoe's as stated above.

also you are correct about them hiding on top of overpasses , as I have got the pleasure of meeting a few that way.

Ask Chuck Norris; "The TROOPER is always behind you" in Texas! CVE (Commercial Vehicle Enforcement) are going to Tahoe's but can also be found in Dodge Ram Pick-up trucks. The Roof, Trunk and hood are White ther rest of the car is black, But the "STATE TROOPER" decal in the rear is lined in gold and reflective! I think the Gold resembles the amount of money they have lifted off Texican's, Oklkhomican's, Arkansikan's and Louisianians. DPS is VHF P25 Digital the Repeaters operate in Half Dulplex so it's rare to actually hear the Trooper as he's running your plates and about to Light you up!

The first thing a Trooper is taught: To forget, get rid of, abandon and let go of a "Sense of Humor" The Second thing they are taught: Is how to fight! The Third thing they are taught is: If they loose a fight how to file the application for hire with TDCJ! (Department of Corrections)

Found these pics of DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, or "DOTs" as called by truckers:

CVE: CVE Silverado, CVE Tahoe, CVE F-150

Also max you got it dead on about the amount of money they have ripped off. Several years ago they fired some of the CVE troopers around the Texarkana area for climbing under trucks with wrenches and loosening things just so they could write a ticket. What is worse is all the new city and county wanna be CVE officers that are worse than the actual DPS DOTs.
