The Official Latest G4/G5 Firmware and PPS Thread

Hello,
I received the G4 yesterday. I purchased from Command Communications in TX and am told by them it is a Phase II G4.

I started by charging overnight.

In getting started with setting up programming, I sent an email to p25firmware@unication.com.

An auto response email reply has this as part of reply email info returned:

“ATTENTION: PHASE II CUSTOMERS- This is NOT the Phase II release. Please refer to the card included with your Phase II unit to obtain the Phase II PPS.”

I did not receive any card with mine.

Do you know if a “card” should have been included?

I did download and install the “Current Phase II PPS Download - 07/05/2018” listed here: https://www.unicationusa.com/pps-downloads

And that version is newly installed to my Win 7 - 64 bit PC. This PPS starts up and connects to G4 with “PC Connected”

But the starting of setup of PPS for choosing the G4 model and the 3 G4 shown in that PPS P2 do not match my model on outside of G4 box of: “GS442RE-SXXXEN1500UNI”

Confused. Thanks in advance for help.

Next question: Now that I have the Phase II PPS Beta09 installed, when I launch it to set it up my first profile, I still don't see my exact model of G4 listed in this Beta09 either.

And am I supposed to do anything with the "default profiles" included in the Beta09 distribution zip?

Any help is appreciated.

If you need a default codeplug that is why those are included. Your dealer should have helped you program and setup your G4.

Just use the first G4 model that has '66' in it.

Then, just create a new profile and add your programming... I'd start basic first...add a system and a site, add the protocol, create a couple of P25 groups, create a zone/knob with your system and talkgroups (TG-Scan). If you want, create a 2nd knob as TG-Monitor (wildcard).

Keep it basic/simple at first... you can start listending while you go back and build a bigger profile.

You really can't break anything initially.... play and get it wirking... each time you make changes to a working profile, make a new copy of the previous working profile and edit that new copy. That way, you can always get back to what worked if something goes wrong...

So, under "Information" on this G4, it says I have Firmware V1.00. So this isn't Phase II, is it?

I read somewhere that the Phase II G4 I was promised before buying should display Firmware V. T008 ?

What does the full version say? I don't have mine in front of me but I recall it was 1.0 but the version string ended with T08...

If you're trying to monitor a Phase 2 system, you'll know pretty quickly if it is working or not..

I’m using the unit’s front display and going down to “Information” and it only has “Firmware Version V1.00”

Nothing more after that. I don’t want to start programming something I may have to return.

The vendor promised Phase 2 G4 would be shipped in email before I purchased. No Phase 2 card inside box and FW: V1.00 doesn’t give me confidence I was sent what I was told I was purchasing.

Understand... but it won't hurt to try a basic programming... you'll still that same profile even if you find you need to get it swapped out.

It should say "Firmware Version V1.00-T08" send me a PM with your e-mail address and I can send you a small profile with Portland, CRESA and OSRP Phase II so you can test.

I bought from same dealer, they stopped putting in the card for the PPS download on the newest batch is what I was told. Yes it's p2 and v1.00 is the latest. I had to message him through eBay and a couple days later he sent me the link for the phase 2 PPS. When it reads the radio it will say G4B64BF but when you make your profile change the model to G4B67BF. I am currently using the beta pps from unication website just released on the 5th.

No problem I had the same concerns you did with cmd communication when I bought my g4. They are not the easiest dealer to deal with I should have bought it from rays pagers as he is the best. He even helped me get mine programmed up even though I didn't buy from him.

Well I think the G4 and the G5 program the same way.... If you want to use my template let me know. I should be able to plug it in to my computer and load it... (me thinks so anyway). I'm new to Unication myself, but aside from messing around with the PPS software I havent bricked mine yet, lol. Truth be told I dont think you can brick 'em...
I'm in the Portland area so no problem if you want to try it...

Oh yeah, congrats on the new 'scanner'. Probably the best one to have, i'm really happy with mine anyway...

Well, I did hear from Command Communications today on Saturday and they provided the Phase 2 link. I downloaded the software from the provided link. I first installed the download provided 3.11 Beta09 PPS to install the Windows 7 driver. Then I found in the download a sub-folder with the v1.00 T08 firmware upgrade tool and ran the g4-bba firmware update process with the G4 turned off. That went great and when it was finished I turned on the G4 and I confirmed I now have “V1.00 T08” showing now in the “Information” section of the G4. So the pager now has the right Phase 2 FW. Then I followed your lead and un-installed the 3.11 Beta09 PPS and installed the newer 3.12 Beta05 Phase 2 PPS from the unicationusa.com web site. Next I then began programming by creating new profile and selecting “G4B67BF” as model, as you specified.

So now I’m here at this point and will review David from Unication programming trunked P25 youtube video.

Thanks again for getting me through this setup. I should be listening to Portland trunked P25 Phase 1 and Oregon State Radio Project P25 Phase 2 sometime on Sunday.

Thank you. PM Sent. BTW: Your Broadcastify feed is awesome for Portland Police Bureau/Multnomah Co. Sheriff. If I wasn’t such a tinkerer I should have saved myself alot of money and a a LOAD of time by not buying any scanners or pagers at all, (and the pain and suffering of all the LSM Simulcast distortion grief of this last year in trying to get clear P25 Phase 1 here in SE PDX on my PRO-668/WS1080), and just listened to your feed. But we must tinker.
