This would be useful (I think)

When I'm outside of my local area in Texas, I use GPS and the built in DB in my SDS200 to scan. I have a number of FLs set up for counties and state systems within Central Texas, but there are some that are just not worth the time to set up right now.

The problem is that when I scan with the Full Database, both the county in the Database and the county I have a FL set up for are scanned.

I can set avoids, but I have to drill down pretty far to the County Systems level to do it. And of course every time I update the DB, it all would get over written and I'd have to do it again. It would be nice to delete counties as a whole, even if that has to be redone with every DB update.

Oh well, I don't expect that to happen.

Scanning things twice, once via a Favorites List and a second time via the full database, is normal behavior.

I don't think we will see something like you desire, turning off individual counties. That would involve being able to read the individual scanner operators mind and anticipate what specific parameters they want. Perhaps one fine day in the future, we might see AI getting involved, but that might be a while.

Maybe you are doing something with your scanning that you do not really tell us about, but normally you go into the scanners menu and to "Manage Favorites" and select your FL and then to "Use Location Control" and set that to Off. Then either go back to "Set Scan Selection" and "Select List to Monitor" and set your FL to Off, or just use its Quick Key, if it has QK 5 set to it then while scanning you go 5+E.

It's normal, but it's as annoying and inefficient at hell. If I have a FL that I built myself and has everything in that that I want to listen to, there is no reason for redundancy. Sentinel would be better software if I had the option to delete a county on my computer and then load that onto my scanner.

The current process to do that, which I did last night, is to go into the database and avoid each system individually. That's fine, but the next time I download an update, I'll have to do it all over again AFAIK. It seems that downloading a new version overwrites all previous avoids.

I've used the full database several times on multi day trips through various parts of the county. By a combination of turning of some Service Types and avoiding other systems, I can get pretty much what I want. The problem is that it's time consuming and temporary.

I understand the process, it's the process that is the problem.

If you painstakingly avoid all systems in the database, I assume using ProScan, that already are in a FL then you do not want that avoid flag to be overwritten from a DB update? Doesn't ProScan have some powerful compare functions between databases that it will show what in the update that are different and perhaps have some skip function to not overwrite the systems you avoided?

Maybe ask Bob exactly what you would like to happen and he can probably code that function into ProScan, if you are detailed enough of what should and should not happen in that specific function.

I will have to look into that. There is an "Import Sentinel Database" function, but I don't see how to do that. I'll have to check the manual or ask Bob. I don't know that it will compare what I've programmed manually or not. I'll try that first to see how it works.

That lets you do an import from the current database file used in Sentinel, as opposed to doing an import from the main, online, Rdio Reference database.

So, using just the Sentinel database,at best it would be "one day older" than the current, online, up to date RadioReference database.

That might be useful to someone who is not a Premium Subscriber, as importing from the Sentinel database would be preferable, when creating a Favorites list. It also is available regardless of "Premium Subscriber" status. Under some situations, a Premium Subscriber might use the Sentinel database import option when there was no internet service available to process an import from the online RRDB. However, you cannot selectively import only specific sites. Like appending directly from Sentinel, it grabs all of the related sites.
