Has anyone seen how the OH River is looking in downtown Louisville? I know last year that it took up many viewing spots because it was fairly high. This year there has been a lot lot more rain and calling for hvy rain Tuesday thru at least Friday of this week. Not looking good.

Flooding and more flooding. Better bring hip boots and a strong rope to tie yourself off to something. It's going to be interesting. Right now it appears boats will not be allowed on the river.

NWS Louisville has the flood stages listed on it's web site. You may want to watch there.

I wonder if I will be able to monitor the airboss from my house, I can hear SDF ok most of the time but the Gault House is twice as far away and blocked in by tall buildings.

The bad thing about the airboss is that he is working off a base in the Galt House West building. Albeit he is on the top floor, he and his antenna are facing the Ohio.

In 2006 I worked as liason between MetroSafe and Airboss. I had one of the best seats in the house and did absolutely nothing.

92 planes on the docket according to the news. And the Fireworks will be launched form the ISS (Space Station) by astronauts.

And the river should be below flood stage, but I'm sure it will be wet. I'd bring a plastic tarp and a blanket.

Just got my media credentials for Thunder Over Louisville. I've never been. Any helpful information about the area would be greatly appreciated.

Don't drink the river water ;)
Don't travel West past 9th street or thereabouts.

Louisville has a visitors center on line, it generally has good information. 4th Street live is a place to visit, Hard Rock Cafe. Not really from Louisville, but if you have questions ask.
But the website is a real good bet.

Find a place to hang out afterwards. With all those folks gettin out of dodge, its a hurry up and wait.Usually an hour or more of sitting in traffic.we found its best to just hang out and let everyone get gone.Have fun and eat a corn dog,and brat for me!.

Best things you can know about THunder. Get there early if you want the best viewing spot, I would say before 10am if you want a front row seat. Park as far away as you can. Know your traffic route out of the area. Bring your own toilet paper and expect the portapotties to get very full by evening time, like near the rim full. Don't think sunblock will be a problem this year. Oh and as others have said, hang out afterwards and let everyone else sit in traffic. It took me 2.5 hours to go 3 miles back to my hotel last year on 3rd street out to near the Airport and I even parked about a mile away. Louisville Police don't allow access onto the interstates after it's over so everyone gets clogged on city streets. Other than that your all set.

One of the best places to visit with your media credentials is the Command Center. This is on the top floor of the Galt House. There are 2 Galt House hotels. You want the one on the left if you are looking at the river. It is the best seat in the house and they will let you take pics of the Command Center and all of the hoopla that goes with it. The room on the other side of the Command Center is where the Air Boss works out of and is where the Military do their descriptions to the crowd of what their aircraft are doing.

Also, you might want to visit the Police Command Post and hook up with the PIO. I am not sure where the Command Post is this year but it should be down near Waterfront Park.

The last place I can think of is the 2nd Street Bridge. This is where they stage the fireworks that light up the bridge and you can take pictures of the crowds from a better vantage point along the river. It gives you a better perspective on how big the crowds are along the Kentucky side of the river.

Take your scanner and a boat load of batteries and enjoy all there is to see.

If there is anything else I can suggest or remember, I will drop you an email.

I have changed my location from the 3rd Street offramp to the Frazier Museum. Free food, free drink, and real bathrooms. One of the perks of my work

looks like the river has gone down so that it's off the great lawn. i guess whether it stays down or not will depend on how much rain we get around here (and up river) over the next couple of days.

Does anyone know about what times aircraft might be practicing in the show box tomorrow (Friday)? Thanks.
Don't know, it's supposed to rain, don't know if that will affect anything. Today was high winds in the area. Don't know the rest of the weather report for tomorrow other than rain.
Heard more chatter than normal on SDF ANG UHF channel this afternoon.

Here's the NWS forecast
Friday: Periods of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8am. Some of the storms could be severe. High near 72. Breezy, with a south wind 9 to 12 mph increasing to between 20 and 23 mph. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers between 1am and 2am, then a slight chance of showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45. Breezy, with a west wind between 11 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. West wind between 11 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

If you will go to www.fox41.com you will get all the weather infomation you will need plus the forecast for the general coverage area.
I thought I posted that information?
NWS can also be found on 162.475 MHz for scanner listeners.
NWS or Weather underground will give the best information. Fox41News is okay, but I don't rely on it, neither should you. IMHO

FSS FAA 255.4000 Active today
Bowman Tower 257.6250 Active and in use
SDF ANG 268.1000 Active today.
SDF Approach 327.0000
DoD Pilot-Dispat 372.2000 Active in area
Louisville KSDF Tower 257.800 Ground 348.600

These are all active Henryville RCAG and they ARE current. Keep or lockout.
{ 269.0250MHz} 269.0250
{ 293.2250MHz} 293.2250

Look, who's local. I am and Fox news is a fourth-ranked station that happens to have Thunder this year. But all the stations will/are covering it as they have in the past. And they rotate coverage between the stations every year. And so far, Fox41's coverage has been poor. Why do I know this, because I've watched two other stations with better coverage and stories on what is happening at Thunder.

I don't try and tell you about the Indy TV or radio Stations, please don't come and do that here.

In this case I do know what I'm talking about. It sound like you are shilling for the local Fox station.

over the past few minutes i've heard several people talking to airboss on 132.325, so i guess that confirms that they're using the same freq as last year.

F-18 Superhornets are in town.
Also, the stretched a cable across a runway for military jet to use. An F-15 or 16 damaged their tail hook and then the cable. Supposed to be tested and re-certified today, and then have some more goes at it.

There should be air to ground activity from this also.

Many military aircraft arrived yesterday, all the rest should be today or already here.
