i have fallen asleep listening to something since i was a kid, mainly to help me focus on something familiar. i can recite entire movies and i am untouchable at seinfeld trivia though!

i have never heard of this finger slap thing, my 9yo has a youtube problem so it's blocked on most devices in the house 😂 i am trying to not get super excited about it!
I've tried it three four times this afternoon, no fix so far.

"Your middle fingers should point toward one another just above the base of your skull. Place your index fingers on top of you middle fingers and snap them (the index fingers) onto the skull making a loud, drumming noise. Repeat 40-50 times. Some people experience immediate relief with this method."

It helps my tinnitus but might only work on a specific type of tinnitus problem.

mine seems to be connected to my jaw. when i move or clench muscles in my jaw it will change "pitch" and relative "volume". i will keep trying this anyway but i can't do it now because it's like 1am and focusing on my tinnitus is the worst possible nightcap 😂

thanks for the pull quote, i missed that when i was cruising youtube.

Then its very different from mine, a single tone at a constant volume and pitch at the top of my frequency range. That thumping at the back of the skull are probably to make the nerves from the ear go numb and less sensitive. Its very effective on me but when my nerves have gone back to normal the tinnitus will usually come back, after 15-30 minutes. But that are enough to fall asleep or listening critical to something.

I don't think I have it, but if I did the cicadas would drown it out.
that's very similar to what mine sounds like. on school nights there's an automation that gradually warms and red-shifts the lighting and by 9pm all the homepods in the house are playing "Ocean Waves" or "Night" which has cicadas much like the ones outside our house haha that was the reason i use that particular noise at bedtime, to mask the choir of cicadas crawling around in my head.
