• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I was looking to be pointed in the direction of a programming cable and the software to do so. I just installed the Kenwood TK-8180 radio with remote setup in my vehicle. I have a buddy with the stuff but I was looking to purchase the necessary pieces to program myself, Any help would be appreciated-JOEYD

Cables can be had on E-BAY. I did run across someone (dealer?) selling software on the internet. Don't know anything about them

Kenwood list; cable = $93, software = $103.25. Good luck shopping.

Well I understand that but I am pretty sure most people here do not own entire legal copies of the software. I was just asking where they may aquire them. Since so many people buy the cables so cheap elsewhere Im not sure people would spend the 100 bux on the software-JOEYD

well come on anyone would know a kenwood dealer.
So you think you can come here and ask for free software? Have us commit software piracy for you? Keep asking. Watch where it will get you. You realize people from the manufacturers read these forums right?

I don't understand why people are such cheapskates about Kenwood software. Be glad it's not as tedious to acquire or as expensive as Motorola software.

On the contrary, I would expect that most people on here DO have legal copies of their Kenwood software. It's not hard to get, and it's reasonably priced compared to /\/\... I have three different models of Kenwood radios, and I have legal copies of all three software packages. Why play games when you don't need to?

Do you people think you are Cops? or is the reason you go so crazy on radios and such is because you really really wanted to be one and well...CAN'T. This is an internet FORUM incase you all forgot that. Its all you uptight people that ruin the want to come on this site as I always viewed and never joined and now...Im not sure i wanna even recommend this site to anyone-JOEYD

Honest IS the word. I'm new and you get great advice when you ask. "Tude" won't get you nothing. COPS? well they are called Mods and "police" the forum to correct and remove.

Software piracy. I don't know how else to explain it. The last thing Lindsay needs is a letter from Kenwood or Motorola or whomever's lawyer because of people asking for free software and people who publicly reply with obvious text that hints to providing it. We have to show that we do not openly promote it or tolerate it. It's called CYA. This isn't some little 1000 member scanner forum anymore. This site get a LOT of publicity and it's the Moderation staff's job to make sure we make an attempt to play by the rules.

If someone has a problem with authority and enforcing rules, which I'm encountering way too much of on here lately, I'd recommend they either stop posting or leave.

Not trying to tell the mods what to do here, but maybe a sticky post like the one in the Motorola section pertaining to asking for free software should be added to the Kenwood section.

It's on the To Do list.

And I'm closing this thread. Nothing further is needed.
