This is my first full tornado season in Oklahoma City with a scanner,
and I'd like to build a bank with chasers and such.
Who do you listen to when tornado watches and warnings are activated,
and what are the best agencies to listen to after one touches down,
other than FD and PD?

In OKC, the PREMIER frequency you want to listen to is 145.410 MHz. This amateur radio repeater is used by the NWS Norman FO as a link to different areas of their CWA.

Okla. County uses 151.445 MHz. The state uses 155.235 MHz and the following TGs on the state SmartZone system: 42832, 42864, 42896, 43056, & 38032.

Check the RR database, there's lots more there.

IM here in Okmulgee attending OSU-Okmulgee. they moved all the students to the storm shelters.
Ol' mother nature is already showing us that this storm season is gonna be good.

I've gotten allot from the database, but I'm not sure how active they all are.
That's why I wondered exactly what frequencies everyone listened to.
You all are more experienced in this time of year,
so I'm relying on what you think are the most active channels.
And thanks for the ones you listed so far K5MAR.

The OK-Ark Skywarn site has a great list of freqs (and is a good group, I'm a member), but it doesn't extend to Okla. City at this time. It may, at a later date, but I haven't been able to find out anything definate. If it does tie in, I'm told it will be through the Edmond 443.425 MHz machine.

The comparable system used by the Norman FO is shown here:
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/oun/skywarn/

Another good list is Keith Brewster's list, located here:
http://www.caps.ou.edu/~kbrews/spotfreq/
This list is maintained through user submissions, and may have a slight lag between a change and it's submisson to the list, but Keith does a good job of updating as soon as he gets the info.

My area of concern is north of Okla. City, so much of what I have is not of use to you. Hopefully some people south of the OKC metro area will submit confirmed freqs, what I have I can't confirm so I won't post them.

You might also want to take a look at the media freqs, as all three TV stations are active in weather chasing & reporting.

Are you serious? The nation set an all-time record for twisters with well over 1,700 of them reported! I have a feeling that this year may come close to equaling it.

Exactly! This being the (hold on while I double-check..........yep) Oklahoma Forum, I was referring to activity in Oklahoma, which was lackluster at best. However, it's starting out pretty decent, so I have high hopes. Don't get me wrong, I DON"T want another May 3rd, a good close call plowing up some fields works for me. Another stringer for 5 got some good stuff Monday afternoon, no homes hit, nobody hurt, that's my choice!

There are those of us that work public safety and emergency management that really don't want to see anything, at all, PERIOD.

If your out west of El Reno, listen in on 146.760 88.5 pl in Elk City, 146.640 100.0 pl in Granite, 146.790 100.0 pl in Altus, and 146.715 88.5 pl as your main link to NWS, it's part of the wide area coverage connected to 147.045 Cyril,Ok and 147.255 Grandfield OK. Part of the SWIRALINK system for wx spotting.

:!:

You can also try these frequencies for NE Oklahoma:
146.88- NWS Tulsa primary
146.94- NWS Tulsa backup/Tulsa EOC primary
443.85+ PL88.5 TARC UHF Supersystem

Please note since the 146.88 repeater in Tulsa is having audio problems,
I would suggest listening to the 146.94 repeater on the VHF side & the
443.85 TARC UHF Link System on UHF side.

Those frequencies are a good source of info.

Having been in Public Safety, and currently an EM volunteer, I can appreciate your wish. However, this IS Oklahoma, so since we are going to get them anyway, might as well hope they don't destroy lives. It's not like that insurance commercial where the agent waves the DETOUR sign in front of the funnel and it goes around the house. Nice idea, but.......
