I assume you know the characteristic appearance of most cell towers with the triangular array of verticular collinear antennas. The size of the folded dipoles in multi-bay VHF/UHF would be a big tipoff to the frequency range in use, i.e. relatively small dipoles for the 450-480 mhz etc. with the vhf stuff being considerably larger. With 'close call' on a lot of scanners you could get a handle on the service that might be on the tower.....As the other responder said, if you know the geographical coordinates of the tower you could probably look it up in a data base and find the the licensee (s) etc....I carry a set of binoculars just so I can view the arrays on some of the larger/higher towers!!!!

Hi Bum and all,

If you're an experienced antenna freak the answer is "sometimes". Mostly the answer is no even though I have two eyes, one for antennas and the other for women. Never mind what happens when I see a hottie with a radio!

Oh you're welcome KG4, now that's taken care of on to a bit of trivia.

Bum, your avatar once was a trademark and has a name, do you know it? Bonus question, whose trademark was it?

He has an interesting wiki reference. I had no idea just how far he had gotten around, and how far back he originated.

I'm not sure of the spelling but you got the name right. Now, whose trademark was it? If you can get past that, which company had Ronald Reagan as a spokesman? Clue: They had a TV show on CBS. Double bonus; name the show.

I'm not going to gyp him out of answering, but Reddy is still a trademark. The image is licensed to all sorts of brochures around the world along with his brother Reddy Flame.

Now, what movie short featured Reddy reporting a dangerously overloaded octopus connection? :)
