Travis County Beginner

Hi, I'm new to radio in general and I want to get a scanner to hear what's going on in the Travis County/Austin area. I've only used a scanner a few times (in WA state, about 10 years ago) so I don't know much. My questions are:

Would a Pro-197 be an OK starter scanner for this area? I know that I'll need to understand P25, is that going to be WAY over a beginner's head? I'm more than willing to read the instruction manual front-to-back, internet sources, etc.

Is there a different radio that someone would reccomend?

Actually, the 197 is an ideal receiver for Travis County. Austin and Travis Cty use such a large trunking system, that most lesser scanners don't have the memory space for all the talkgroups, whereas the 197 can handle it just fine.
