Im also having trouble getting my TRx-2 to recognize the control frequencies for P25 site frequencies. Do I need to designate them as control? for example see here: Oklahoma Wireless Interoperability Network (OKWIN) (P25) Site: Velma

perhaps I don't understand what the significance of the red lettering is and the c after the frequency.

this is from the radioreference wiki:Common Trunking Programming Questions - The RadioReference Wiki

'On the trunking system I am trying to program, some of the frequencies listed have a (c) or (a). What does this mean?''
  • The red and blue frequencies are those identified as the control channel (CCh (in red with a '(c)') or alternates (in blue with an '(a)').
  • Now comes the confusion, if the system you are looking at is a Motorola or a Project-25 system and your scanner is capable of Control Channel Only trunk tracking, you only need to program the control channels.

The RR database no longer shows primary control channels in red and the alternates in blue. All of the control channel capable frequencies are in red and need to be entered for a site. Otherwise, you would lose the site if the control channel changes to an alternate frequency for maintenance or interference. You do not need to designate frequencies as control channels. Just enter the frequencies without the lower case "c". You only need to enter the control channel capable frequencies. All of the info for the other voice frequencies is carried on the control channel. In a Harris system, any frequency can be used as a control channel. In that case, all of the frequencies are in red and need to be entered. If you attach your programming file, I will be happy to take a look at it to check for problems. Click on Attach files and open the file.

Only use the red frequencies. Just put those into the TRX-2 as a trunked Project25 system.

Create a site and on the right side enter the two frequencies. Then on the other "Site Options" tab be sure to select "Type == Autofill" and turn ON Digital AGC.

Under the Talkgroup Details tab, create a "Wildcard" entry. I use ABST, DLY, REC and AGC options so be sure those are checked.

Lastly, assign the Wildcard TGID to a SCANLIST. So on the main General Settings tab use the first SCANLIST. Name it something creative. Then check its ENABLED box.

Copy the config to the scanner and when it's done you should be able to turn on the scanner and start hearing traffic.

FWIW, if you get nothing happening after that and you're sure the entered frequencies are correct -- then enter in all the frequencies.

If you click the link and read through the wiki you'll see the TRX-2 is control channel only capable

Meaning you should only need to program these two:
859.0375c859.5375c

If after programming them you still aren't getting a link on the system then either you're out of range or perhaps they've switched to another control channel not designated as such in the RRDB (unlikely but not impossible). Site you provided is a standalone site so we can rule out simulcast distortion right off the bat...

You should be using EZ Scan software to program it and it will set it up properly for you.
I am using the ez scan software. It imports all the p25 frequencies for that site. I hear nothing. Do the p25 have to be in a separate scan list from the analog frequencies?

They don't if you tell it to only import control channels, at import screen select IMPORT OPTIONS

Then make sure the bottom three options are checked.

Duncan is about 16.5 miles from the Velma site. You may be on the fringe of its coverage area. Check your squelch setting. Take a look at Site Options for the Velma site in EZ Scan. If Trunking Tables are set to Auto Fill, you may be having a problem loading the band plan from the control channel. you can set Trunking Tables to the preloaded Standard band plan which will work with the frequencies in the Velma site. Please attach your CDAT programming file so I can take a look at it. Click on Attach files and open the file.
