Been using Whistler scanners for several years, I don't have any issues with them.

As have many others as you and I know, nothing wrong with the 1098 except maybe a bit of a questionable front end design. It is called a user blaming the scanner for their lack of knowledge.

TRX-2, I give Up

Did the unsigned driver dance, and was able to communicate to the TRX2 with the USB cable. Then, on day two, I must not have held-in the power button long enough as all I got was a quick lamp blip in the display, a future try, and the warning screen.

Then couldn't make the screen go away, so went to "NoSoup4You" for the latest CPU firmware 4.6 and tried to load that, then I get a screen that says 'you are SOL" as I've lost all USB ability to talk to the radio.
I can use the SD card to update the radio frequencies and talkgroups with the card removed, but still can do any upload/download or firmware updates on the rig using the USB cable that did work last week.
Any suggestions? I hate to trash a $600 radio, but my wife is already to kill me for the is purchase and now it is toasted.

Will Whistler let you return these bogus rigs for a trade to another maybe working version?

Take the SD card out of radio, use a card reader and do the Prepare Scanner Memory/SD Card for use and tick all the boxes. Why would you be going to another user for firmware updates? Go to Whistler website and get the TRX 2 CPU Firmware Installer and do it that way to update to correct firmware if the USB cable is giving issues trying to update firmware. There is probably a reason why Whistler does not have older versions of certain firmware for the TRX 2 available.

Almost all these errors people keep getting are most likely operator error, jumping around and using firmware updates from other users that are not listed on Whistler website is probably a invitation for problems, then blame Whistler for their issues.

Not all. Received refurbish TRX-2 from last sale and had 4-00 error right out of the box. Unit was dirty and contacts on SD card were dirty as well.

A new class 10 SD card is working well and haven't had another 4-00 problem (had it three times in three days with original card).

You cannot brick these scanners. Everything you will ever run across can be fixed by the user. There is no such thing as a bogus rig (as mentioned above), that is a user that blames everything else but themselves. If you have a 4-00 (initialization) error, just format and reprogram it. If that does not work .. throw the card out. You can buy 5 cards for less than $10, so this is so not an issue. The best cards for these scanners .. the cheapest, slowest cards you can find. You do not need fast cards for these scanners. If you buy them .. you are just wasting your money.

There is no benefit of sending a scanner back to Whistler as it is not a scanner issue but a user not knowing what they are doing issue.

All the answers to all the problems that you will ever face with these scanners are on this forum. Search is your friend but most do not bother and just come here and rant and blame the scanner manufacturer. Uniden has issues too .. and often those cannot be fixed at all as they are firmware related. At least Whistler fixes things .. Uniden pretty much never.

All it takes is not properly turning on or off the scanner, not properly ejecting the scanner connected via USB cable or card reader from Windows for problems to start. Some just pull the USB cable or card reader without ejecting it first from Windows then blame the radio when the SD card starts acting funny.

When I disconnect my scanner from the computer connected by USB cable, I always eject it from Windows first, then I unplug the USB cable from computer 2nd, then remove the USB cable from scanner. I only use the USB cable connection for firmware updates and always use the card reader for database updates or any changes I make to my setup.

I cannot even remember the last time I have had errors with the scanners. Been several years just from following the simple steps I have noted, but some people get in such a hurry and just do whatever, then blame the radio, when it actually a user created problem.
