We were bringing back a new aircraft from Toulouse to New Zealand and were met by an Air France rep in Luxor, Egypt for refuel and overnight. The rep said do not take anything except a small overnight bag off the aircraft and DO NOT take any cellphones. An armed guard was posted at the aircraft and we were all patted down and our bags searched by the army - somebody, one of our crew, (no names, rank or number!) had his cellphone in his bag. His excuse was that the battery was flat and he was taking it to the hotel to charge it. The searcher hunted around under his desk and found what he was looking for - a big hammer with which he smashed the cellphone and gave it back to the owner along with his passport and said something in Egyptian and all the army guys laughed.
