Has anyone ever tried to use an Unication G series for rail yet? If so how does it fare?

You mean as a scanner? Works just fine.

Limitation is the internal VHF antenna means you won't get stellar range.
Thats exactly what I was wanting to know. I had never heard anyone using one. I figured that since I am planning on getting one, I can get multiple usage out of it, and they are awesome on VHF as much as on 7/800. Just won't be as useful for rail once the NXDN roll out finally really starts.

I've been using G5's for years. I have several zones setup with knob 1-7 set up as individual channels for a certain area and knob 8 is scan for that zone. Smokes most scanners for sensitivity.

Once you are used to the clunky interface, I prefer it to trying to make favorites lists in my Unidens.

I am even more interested in one now that the C version is around. USB-C interface for charging and programming. Other features on the new ones too from what I am seeing. :)
