• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just ran across how to upgrade your G series pagers without sending them in to the dealer or factory. Unication has changed the process to do the upgrade. You pay a $25 fee, then you provide Unication your serial number and they send you a download that upgrades your pager for DMR.

Details located here:

I have and have had DMR on my pagers since acquiring them used, a few years ago now. I did some brief experimenting with them on DMR and honestly since almost all of my PS here is P-25 simulcast I use the Unication's for what they're designed for and use different devices for DMR. Even when I did have one with me on DMR I was still missing too much of my P-25 simulcast which is honestly to me, what the Unication excels at.

It's great they are letting you have that now for the folks that want it however to me, it's a waste of the capabilities of the pager at least in my area. Good luck to you!

When you upgrade to DMR does that change the firmware if you're still using an older one (V1.31)? I don't really want to change it.

Just did mine. Filled out the form yesterday, sometime mid morning today got the email. It took about a minute to do. Once it finished, just read the pager into PPS, and you are good to go, no rebuilding your profile necessary.

Oh sweet ill have to try that! I have DMR in my pager from LONG time ago when they gave you DMR for free. Lost it after a a specific FW update but have reverted FW back and only a specific beta PPS works. Unication says no way this pager will do DMR since it dont have it in the model number yet.. use the specific PPS works just fine. Downside is its about 6 years old FW in it and too too expensive to mail the pager out and back from canada to get the upgrade done. So if its all DIY then perfecto!

It is DIY. Very easy to do and very quick.

I have DMR on my G5, and I don't consider it a waste at all, I consider it another tool in the tool box. It isn't my primary mode used on the pager but there are some things I like to listen to on a limited basis and it is nice to be able to easily switch over to it on the pager, rather than breaking out a scanner. But, everyone is different in how they monitor, so I'm not saying you are wrong.

Depending on the area I agree. It's rare i work the town that still uses DMR and honesty to me, in my area i just don't want to loose my main source which the p-25 simulcast.

I agree however, it is absolutely another tool in the box and we never seem to have enough of those. I guess in my case a handful of Motorola DMR radios set up for different things perhaps sways my opinion at times.

I guess it's similar to when I see the weather changing and I switch it to the NOAA weather I have in there.

I didn't mean DMR was a waste in the device but, again in my area, just not what I got my Unications for. If they hadn't come with DMR, I would have not have added it. As always others have different needs and radios to pick from.

Paid for the upgrade, almost 24 hours later sent the program to update the pager. Took all of 2.2 seconds to do that. Read my codeplug from it and was good to go. Since it already had DMR in it from long time ago it would always read but never say it had DMR in it, and when id write back to the pager it would remove any DMR channels. This time it shows DMR, P25 blah blah blah and wrote back just fine. Yay :) Paid for something i already kinda had haha.. Cant do a fw update since it seems thats down at the moment

But the process is stupid simple and quick. Good job unication!

I don’t have any DMR scanners but my city has a few DMR mode frequencies.

Can DMR frequencies be added to the same scan list as conventional analog frequencies on the G5 and scanned in the same knob position?

Just cant do P25 trunking and anything els together
Oops sorry didn't see this when I answered. Yes I have analog, P-25 conventional and DMR in one knob position although, it's pretty rare I actually use that.
